Kitchens and Bathrooms don’t need to be beautiful to be functional. Our obsession with “updating” counter-tops and cabinets and appliances and light fixtures to “impress” visitors is a bit sick. Love your visitors and use your things.

I used to know an elderly Dutch couple and, upon entering their home, I asked if I should take my shoes off (which is a common expectation here). The lady’s response has stayed with me ever since. “Our home is here to serve you. You are not here to serve our home.” (R.I.P Anna and Jack)

You are so right , we spend tons of money on things that should be the least of our concerns. I have never forgotten what a friend told me years ago. Upon entering our house after being gone for awhile, she smiled and said, “I have always loved your beautiful home.” I thanked her but was a little confused, for we don’t have the finest furniture,etc. and then in her next breath she said, ” I always feel so cozy and warm here!” And that’s when I realized she didn’t mean beauty as in the things in our home, she meant beauty in how our home made her feel, and warmth filled my heart!

Have to go with the Dalalamas wise words this week, loving people is important, not using them. I think it’s somethimg we all needs to remember this. Another way if heard this said people are an “end” in themselves and should never be used as a “means” to an end. Thanks for sharing 🙂

My hubby just did the math problem too as I read it to him, LOL! I made sure to have the pillows on my side, I got the “look” though. I told him he should have read my post earlier! 🙂

The Ralph Waldo Emerson quote : “For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness” were words that my Father offered to divert some squabbling sibling’s tempers. I have long forgotten the cause of our anger, but have never forgotten the quote! Emerson has always been a favorite of mine and I have repeated #2 often. Thank-you!
