Don’t worry Baby…..

There was a challenge from our writer’s club to go to the radio or our ipod and pick the first song that is on our playlist or CD. Take the lyric and write a story around it and for a twist incorporate the name of the artist into the story. So hope you enjoy this! Can you guess the name of the artist? I am sure you can ๐Ÿ™‚

As I see the beach in my mind and hear the sound of the waves, I am soothed. To me the beach means peace. Especially when the beach is empty. No boys or girls playing, or other adults sunbathing ; just me and the sand and the waves.ย  I can walk for a long time on the beach not getting tired. Feeling the soft, warm texture of the sand on my bare feet and looking out into the never ending ocean brings a calmness into my soul. It doesn’t matter what may be going on in my life. When I am at the beach time stands still. Yes, in that moment, my heart sings the words to Don’t worry Baby and for a moment all is well!

Spreading Cheer!

Since i have quoted Dr.Seuss and I have talked about my precious daughters, I thought I would let you see them ๐Ÿ™‚ They went to the retirement home that I used to work at for a Harvest Party and helped hand out candy and bring smiles and joyย  to the residents. Am proud of them! And thankful for the great people they have in their life like Dr.Seuss ๐Ÿ™‚ to do things like this with them!

Thing 1 and Thing 2…I LOVE YOU ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The New Car..Part 2

I am sitting here wearing my pearl necklace staring through my binoculars at the shiny red, brilliant blue, light green, cool purple vehicles that cruise by and I sigh! LOL! No, its all OK! So we didn’t win the car, we still had good luck today. First of all the necklace is actually pretty nice. Its a Freshwater genuine pearl in a heart. I had to smile when I saw there was a heart. I love heart shaped thngs. It all started when my husband bought me my heart shaped diamond engagement ring. Nothing can compare to that of course, but since then I have collected different heart shaped things. I even bought a purse one time for it had a heart shaped clasp to close it with.

After that we went shopping for my husband who needed a new suit. My 25th High School Reunion is coming up this Saturday and I got my dress, so he needed this suit. We found a GREAT DEAL!! The store was having a big sale!

So in the end we are both happy. He has binoculars, I have a necklace.ย  I think the only ones not happy besides my daughter…since we didn’t win the car…is the car salesperson ๐Ÿ™‚ย  He came up to us right away when we walked out to the lot. We showed him our key with the code, and he asked if he could interest us in a great sale on vehicles that they are having. You knew that was coming. My husband nicely replied that no, we really are just here for our prize ๐Ÿ™‚ He said OK and took us back to the office, then tried one more time. He said , “What would it take for you to buy one of our vehicles?” My husband replied, “If one of our vehicles breaks down tonight and is not worth fixing, for sorry sir, but we run our vehicles til they totally die!” The guy was nice and gave us our gifts and sent us on our way.

I am thankful for my wise spending hubby. Just because there is a big sale or shiny blue car in the lot, he won’t give in. We have never had a car payment since we been married, we pay for it in cash. That is why we are limited in what we buy, and why we go with the best deal, even when its gray ๐Ÿ™‚ So I am OK, I will vent, but in the long run…my van gets me where I need to go and it sits higher up which I like. For one of short stature, that is important. I always feel smaller when I sit in my husband’s car.. Someday the color will change, but until than I will wear my necklace proudly. A reminder that even if you don’t win the big things…it’s OK!

The New Car !

Well this title may be a little misleading, since I don’t actually have the new car yet! Yesterday we got the KEY in the mail. The key that you use to go visit a dealership to see if your secret code matches up with the winning one. So maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself, but hey I have as good of chance as the other millioneth person that got a key in the mail ๐Ÿ™‚ There are other prizes you can win too. A pearl necklace, (doubting its real pearls) and a pair of binoculars. But I am counting on the brand new vehicle, and counting on it not being gray!

Yes, there is a story behind this. As our girls were getting excited last night about winning a vehicle, the color of it came up. Don’t worry we did inform them that our chances of actually winning are pretty slim! My oldest tho is like me and clings to the slim hope. She said how that would be the perfect vehicle for her when she gets her license next year. My husband and I looked at her and dashed her hopes right away!. I told her she could get Dad’s car, for she doesn’t want my van. I mean really my van is just not cool enough! So that led us to talking about our past vehicles and my color story came out. I have always owned gray vehicles, NOT by choice! It just always seemed to be the gray ones that were in my limitedย  price range, when I was single. When I got married and we had little babies, we needed a reliable, but cheap form of transportation. Found a Taurus that someone was selling at a great price. Yes,it was gray, but could we really protest, was it worth spending extra money just to try to get another color? No. Same thing happened when we had to replace that one The kids were getting bigger, we needed more room to haul their friends around. We checked out vans in Consumer Report and found Windstars to be rated high, so we went off looking for that. Went to a well known car dealership and theย  salesperson said he had 1 of them in the lot. We walked out and my eyes struck aย  beautiful blue van, I thought luck was shining down on me; but wait where was the salesperson going? I saw, and my husband looked at me;ย  t put my head down, as he laughed. YUP, the salesperson led us to a nice, shiny, gray Windstar. I decided that gray is just really trying to make itself my favorite color. Sorry to say its not working! It wouldn’t be as bad, if I could have got different colors each time. Would have been ok, even if they weren’t my first choice! It’s just how it had to be gray every time. In the meantime my Dad gets a red vehicle, my sister gets a blue one, my Mom gets a red one, my nephew who had a very limited budget even got a nice color vehicle! I figured I was just jinxed! So I have decided that today will be the day my jinx ends! My husband will take the key and the next thing I know he will be pulling into the drivewayย  with that shiny blue, red, purple, (I don’t care, as long as its not gray) vehicle and you all will hear me shout ๐Ÿ™‚

For remember, if you read my post yesterday…I quoted Dr.Seuss. “Today is Your Day” it said. And yesterday we got the key. It’s a sign, I just know it ๐Ÿ™‚ Stay tuned to find out!

Tuesday’s Quotes…Today is Your Day!

“You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so…Get on your way!” Dr. Seuss

I know this is usually used for graduations but I think it can apply for anytime! I want to have the attitude when I get up in the morning that Today can be my Day! To have the expectation of what may be coming my way! Too often I think as adults we get caught up in life and get used to the routine. We don’t wake up each day with thinking , What can I do today? Like we did as kids! I remember how I didn’t want to sleep in on Saturday’s for I wanted all that time to play! My to do list might have changed, but it doesn’t have to change my view of the day! Surprises can still come my way!

“What day is it?”, asks Pooh

“It’s today!”, squeaked Piglet

“My favorite day!” said Pooh

Once again Pooh has it right ๐Ÿ™‚ but if my day doesn’t exactly go as I would like, I can listen to Cookie Monster ๐Ÿ™‚

“Today I will live in the moment, unless its unpleasant, in which case I will eat a cookie!” ๐Ÿ™‚

Get on your way everyone and have a GREAT DAY!!

Letter to the Homecoming Prince

Dear Homecoming Prince: Today I was listening to Peter,Paul and Mary and their song, Blowing in the Wind. You were too young to appreciate their music, but they were talented. It’s 3 words in that song that made me think of you. HOW MANY TIMES….???

That’s the question that rings in my mind.ย  How many times do we have to hear the horror story of another school shooting? How many times do innocent children have to die? How many times til society WAKES UP! We may not be living in a country where war rages and innocent children die that way, BUT our children are in the midst of a war.

I want to say I am so sorry! I didn’t know you, but it breaks my heart that you felt such deep pain that you had to take your life and others also.

What could we have done to stop you? I cannot imagine the nightmare your parents are living with and your friends! I don’t understand, just like a lot of people, but one thing I do grasp. That is that you and your peers are in the midst of a war. A war that I feel society has created in part. I don’t want to go into a list of reasons I have for these school shootings that are becoming too common. This isn’t a political statement. I just want to let you know I care!

I wish you could have seen the potential you had in yourself, I wish you could have believed in yourself! I wish you could have known that no disappointment that you had to bear is too big for God. That no pain goes so deep that God can’t heal. I wish you would have known that your life is precious and that there never will be another person like you

Sadly I can’t tell you these things, but I can tell my girls. I can and do remind them of how precious they are and how they have a purpose in this life. That no matter how deep a pain they have to encounter in life that they are never alone!!

I feel that is one thing that i can do in memory of you and of all the other victims of school shootings. I don’t know the answer to how many times this will continue to happen. Butย  I hope and pray that we as a society can reach out to our young people and that we can be good role models for them! That we can pray for our young people about the daily battles they face. The answers are BLOWING IN THE WIND, I hope society wakes up and sees them!

“Yes, how many time can a man turn his head, pretending he just doesn’t see,

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind.

Yes, how many deaths will it take til he knows that too many people have died.

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind.”

Sincerely,

Someone who Cares

Sincerely,

Someone who cares!

The Search….The Conclusion!

Finally she landed on something soft. She laid there catching her breath. Why oh why had she followed the voice of the mysterious lady? At that moment she heard her calling her name again. Yeah, like she was really going to follow her again! What was this? A game of 10 ways to lose your mind. She felt like she was drawing very close to her mind being gone!

“Keep coming” the lady called, “You are almost there.” Almost where? All she kept seeing in front of her was pitch darkness and at times the floor was very uneven and it felt like something was jabbing her feet.ย  She moved forward, for what else was she supposed to do. The thought of sitting in the pitch black waiting to be rescued didn’t sit well with her. She never had liked the darkness!

As she was walking forward, a thought came to her mind that made her smile. Maybe the mysterious lady would have chocolate cupcakes waiting for her. She could taste the frosting now! In her opinion she definitely deserved some!

OH MY, was that a glimmer of light that she saw? How she hoped so! Her heart was starting to skip beats in excitement. She picked up the pace a little faster. At this point she didn’t care what was waiting for her at her destination, she just wanted to get to the light! If it was a monster waiting for her, she only hoped that he had left some cupcakes for her. At least she would have a sweet taste in her mouth before she died.

She kept walking the bright light grew stronger and started hurting her eyes. But her heart was glad! Finally it was all light! She was free of the darkness! The light was dazzling as it gleamed off the gold! She couldn’t believe her eyes! Had they been in the dark so long that they were playing tricks on her! There were gold nuggets everywhere! Where did it all come from? She spied a table that was loaded down with cupcakes and plenty of frosting! Oh how the juices in her mouth began running. What was that? There was a note beside the cupcakes, she picked it up to read it.ย  It read, “You have had pain and you have fallen, but you kept going…you were scared and felt alone, but at last you ventured out of your 4 walls. You explored new things and kept going and searching….kept searching, even when you had all you needed in your cozy room. Food and shelter. You ventured out into the darkness that you feared, and look where it led you….here is your reward!”

She gasped as she grasped the meaning of the note. This really was all her’s. WOW!!! But one thought persisted, she still hadn’t found the door, had she??

Glancing behind her she saw what she had missed earlier. The darkness had hid it, as the darkness hides so many things. The door! it was open! She had gone through it and she had found her way OUT! She looked over the high mountain of gold and saw the street and a row of houses. They were all stunning in color. Her heart rejoiced as she breathed in fresh air and heard the birds sing and could freely breathe in the scent of the beautiful flowers. She looked over at the garden and saw the gardener working away, he raised his head and looked straight at her. Was that a wink he gave her? Her attention was drawn to the row of houses again, there was something different about them….

What was it that was different? OH NO! She looked again…OH YES,,,,,there were no doors! She immediately turned around and focused her attention on the frosted cupcakes. She wasn’t letting her mind go there right now…her mindย  needed a break! OH YUM! Her mouth was pleased with her..

White picket fences, beautiful flowers, and crystal clear windows.ย  The homes look beautiful from the outside, but one thing is missing from the inside.ย  The people canโ€™t see the door, to them it is invisible.ย  Fear is what hides the door!

They canโ€™t find their way out to inhale the aroma of the lovely flowers or hear the sweet music of the songbirds perched in the swaying green trees.ย  They canโ€™t find their way to the deep blue ocean where the waves look like they go on forever.ย  Feel the peacefulness of the sound of the waves and the seagulls merged together.ย  The woods beckon them to come relax in their shade trees and stroll the paths strewn with wildflowers.ย  The doves line the path waiting to be held and stroked. They want to pass on peace to the holder.

Hope and joy is calling but unfortunately the ears are closed to the call.ย  They canโ€™t hear, for their ears are listening harder to another call, the call of fear, doubt and worry! That is what keeps them trapped inside.

They hear the call of nature, but fear changes their perspective at how they look at things.ย  The sound of waves isnโ€™t calming, instead the waves look 30 feet tall! The fear of drowning is too great!ย  The seagulls cries are drowned out.

The paths in the woods look dark and twisted and the fear is strong to where they may lead. The birds are unnoticeable, the peaceful doves that are beckoning go ignored.ย  Onlyย  the dark shadows that the lofty trees are making stand out.

The mountains that are beautiful now look way to high and the rocks on them way to sharp and hard to climb. The risk is to great fear says!

The rolling thunder and the loud crack of lightning causes them to quake with fear and thus they cannot see the door.

The glass of fear is so thick that hardly anything can penetrate over the storm of doubts, disappointments and fears, but it is not unbreakable.ย  It can be shattered and the door can be found by something stronger. All that is needed is anย  adjustment to the view that lets the rays of hope and joy shine in!

With those rays whatย  isย  supposed to be seenย  comes into closer view. The storm clouds donโ€™t look as threatening,ย  instead theyย  see the gentle rainfall. The pitter patter of drops is a soothing sound to the ears.

The towering mountains look majestic and the hard climb seems worth the amazing view waiting at the top! It doesnโ€™t seem impossible, but challenging, knowing that in the end the climb will provide strength that was never had before.

The rays of hope help smother the lies of worry and fear. It lets the ears hear the sounds of the waves and seagulls. They donโ€™t look 30 feet high anymore, and even if they do sweep you under, you know that you will come up again!

The paths that seemed so confusing in the woods look brighter now, even tho the destination is still unknown.ย  Hope is found in the beautiful birds lining the path and the aroma of the flowers is much more refreshing , than the smell of fear.

Are you in a house with an invisible door ? Are you trapped inside your fears ? Embrace hope and you will findย  the strength you need to find the door. Your eyes will open and you will see the colors of hope and joy. Bright golden doors will open before you, calling you to walk through.

Walk through and find the rainbow !ย  It is there, I promise. As for the pot of gold, you may find those nuggets too. They are mixed with the sharp rocks on the mountains that you have to climb. They are on the dark paths in the woods that you need to follow. You may even catch some from the falling rain during the storm;ย  that is if you dare to dance in the rain..

All this is waiting for you! Decide today to push fear away from blocking your door. Yes, there will be times you will fall and times you feel like drowningโ€ฆ.BUT press on and the time will come when the waves will smooth over and the birds songs will come singing through and your bucket of gold nuggets mayย  be overflowing!

Thank you my faithful readers, so what do you think of the conclusion? Thanks for your support through this short story, which is the longest story I ever did. Some of you may have recognized the ending. The part after , there was something different about them….ย  Yes the words that followed was taken from my piece titled The Invisible Door. It’s one of my very first posts from back in August. This piece is what inspired me to write The Search… I really liked The Invisible Door and kept thinking how I would like to add to it, but really didn’t know how. So I put it on the back burner than this story came to my mind little by little and the more I got into this story the more I thought of this piece and wondered if there was a way to incorporate it. I honestly didn’t know how I would til I began writing tonight. This story has been so fun for me, for its something that I really didn’t labor over thinking about, most of it really came as I wrote and I was pleased to see how I could use The Invisible Door in this. Hope you have enjoyed it! And please feel free to tell me if you don’t like the ending.

Fun Friday! 6 word story

My online writing course has stopped for now, a new one will be starting up in a couple months. I am happy to say that some of us from the course have decided to form a group to continue in our writing and challenging each other. One of the challenges was to write a 6 word story. Wasn’t sure about it at first, but tried it and liked it, so I will share it with you ๐Ÿ™‚ And I think I will make this a daily Friday post. Enjoy!

Yesterday’s was Fear makes a very cold blanket

Here is the one for today, She fell, she rose, she won!

I like how this exercise shows again how powerful words can be…you don’t always need to say a lot to make a impact.
