How is your Tuesday going? I got the results of my Vitamin D blood test and even with the weekly mega dose that I take, I am still insufficient. The little red flag comes up on the the screen of the computer monitor. No surprise to me. I am okay with it, for at least the pill is keeping me from the single digits where I was before, which did make me feel pretty bad. There are always things that we can’t control in life, no matter what we do to try and change it. My Vitamin D supplement is just a minor example. I am taking the highest dose possible and still its not enough, but there is nothing more that I can do. Besides maybe moving to a tropical island. If there is something in your life today that you feel you can’t change no matter what, I hope you can take a deep breath and try not to stress about it. Focus on what is in your control and have a terrific Tuesday! Enjoy the quotes!

Insurance won’t pay, they are so stubborn. LOL!
My friend shared Number 5 quote with me which was perfect timing for today. 🙂
Number 8 is a great perspective!

All such wise and uplifting thoughts, today. I’ll go with #2 as my favorite. I’m so glad I’ve never lived in denial.

Thank you. I will admit, though, that I once had a problem with my Vitamin-D levels also. I tried supplements, but they only worked a little. So I now I try getting more sun. Every day, between the first day of Spring and first day of Fall, I try to get out in the sun, and stay out for about half the time it takes before sunburn sets in. It works wonders, and has brought my D level up to about 39.

So you had Vitamin D problems even living in sunny California! Were you just taking over the counter supplememts or did you get a prescription dose? 39 is still not real high, so keep staying in the sun. At least you are in the normal range.
Mine stays in the 20’s. I found out I had a problem when my joints started really aching and my walking was affected. I also was so tired. It was down to 7!

7 is pretty low. Mine was in the teens before I started getting more sun. The supplements brought it up to the 20s.
Anyway, I’ve read that perhaps too much emphasis has been put on Vitamin D levels. It seems some people naturally have lower levels than others, and it’s not clear if lower than normal levels are anything to be greatly concerned with.

Wow! Yours was pretty low too. So I really do need sunshine then I could get out of the 20’s perhaps, like you did.
Yes, there is conflicting info. There is such a broad range that if you aren’t feeling bad its probably not that bad to be low. But when it affects how you feel then there is a problem. I am functioning fine. At times i woder if I would feel more energetic and not have occasional leg and arm pain like I do if it was higher but it is what it is. Just another reason to be outside but in the winter that is not my favorite thing to do. LOL!

I spend about half the time in the sun as it takes for me to get sunburned. Which ain’t much time. That’s about 10-15 minutes in the early Spring and late Summer, and only about 5 or 6 minutes per day the rest of the time.
The body stores Vitamin D very well, so I figure by the time Summer is over, I have enough stored to get me to next Spring. So I stop my sunning activities, and avoid freezing to death. Besides, I’d have to spend a hell of a lot more time outside during the Fall and Winter to get any significant amounts of Vitamin D.

Oh, you burn rather easily, eh?
Yes, wouldn’t want you to get frostbite in 50″ weather. 😉

I burn about as easily as a book of matches in a fireplace. 50 degree weather won’t give me frostbite, smartass, but it might make me shiver so hard that I could break a few bones.

No doubt you have been told that spending time in the sun is the best way to get your daily dose of Vitamin D…don’t be Sun-shy! Since Vitamin D is necessary for the body’s proper absorption of calcium in order to maintain bone strength it is very important. I’m egg-cited to offer this advice…the oft maligned free range eggs are a good food choice with many healthy benefits within its shell : the whites contain protein and the yolks contain fat, minerals and vitamins. Which brings to mind a story worth sharing that my Gram oft repeated to my siblings and I as we were growing up. It was about a speech given by Andrew Carnegie in 1885 to students at a college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania : ” Don’t put all your eggs in one basket is all wrong. I tell you put all your eggs in one basket and then watch that basket.” Might I just say that Tuesday’s Thoughts are egg-cellent, egg-specially #7! Thank-you!

Hi Ellen! We do buy free range eggs. 🙂 And yes, I do get out a lot in the warm weather but winter is harder.
Haha on the eggs in a basket advice, I will remember that.
You are always welcome! So glad you enjoyed the quotes and chimed in your Egg-cellent thoughts. 😊

Thanks Jason. As long as it doesn’t go lower than the 20’s I think I will be Ok. Just have to get through the winter and then can enjoy the sun again, and the ocean. Another reason to move to a beach house once we retire.
So are you going to try Number 4 and ask Alexa what a woman wants?

You should move to Singapore.
And it’s a trick question anyway.

Ahh! I wouldn’t mind visiting Singapore, but not sure I could convince my family to move there, though my son would probably say Yes, LOL! Have you been there?
A trick question? Noooo….

I have been to Singapore. It is beautiful and it is almost on the equator. Always summer there.

I have no doubt that it is beautiful. That is great that you were able to go. A photographer’s paradise? 🙂
I remember when we were in Europe our tour guide asked us if we knew what the richest country was and she said it was Singapore.

Joy, good luck with the Vitamin D. I see a little bit of the serenity prayer in your well wishes to control what you can. And, I prefer to kiss with my eyes open to see my lovely wife. But, that is me. Keith

Thanks Keith and the serenity prayer is a great one. Really helps to tone down the stress to try to not worry about what you can’t control! Not always easy though.
Awh!! Keeping your eyes open is fine.

What terrific thoughts! As for the vitamin D deficiency-sorry but applaud your acceptance. Perhaps you could up your levels by sitting outside in sunshine for at least 15 minutes. I’ve always heard the real deal is the best source. 🌞

Thanks Monika. Yes getting it from the sun is the Best way! But sitting outside in the winter is not my thing! I do go outside a lot in the warm weather.

Number 3 was my favorite but Number 5 made me grin from ear to ear!
I also take Vitamin D, up here in the north it’s hard to get enough sunshine in the winter. 🌞

Number 3 is important for I know people who unfortunately have got hurt because of sharing with the wrong people. I do believe in telling your story to help others but don’t be careless in who you tell it too.
Yes, why insurance needs to pay for us to have winter homes in the South! 😉

5 and 10 for me this week.
Since my op in 2019, I was recommended a daily dose of 25micrograms of Vitamin D. After my bone density scan, my GP prescribed a calcium and vitamin D combi to take twice daily. The vitamin D only equates to 20 micrograms, and I felt tired so went back to the OTC Vitamin D tablets. In case it was coincidence, I have tried an experiment and taken the combi for two weeks. I am feeling tired again, so will be back on the OTC stuff as from tomorrow and I’ll stick with it. Do you have the special S.A.D. lamps available where you are? Would that help?

Good luck with your Vitamin D levels. It does definitely cause fatugue. I had problems with joint pain as well before. I am not sure how it converts in comparison to your 25 micrograms But I take a 1.25mg pill each week. I am told its the highest prescription dose that I can take.
I don’t think the lamp would work for its the real sun I need. That helps for people who get depressed on dark, gloomy days, a very real problem for some. But its artificial light so won’t have the Vitamin D in it.

Shame about the light. I have no idea what my Vitamin D level is so will ask at my next diabetes check as I want them to check the calcium level too. I’m taking glucosamine for my arthritis and that seems to be helping.

Calcium is important too! I have heard good things about glucosamine.
My Vitamin D level stays in the 20’s.

Believe it or not it was recommended for Maggie and we noticed a difference in about three months. A GP had suggested I take it years before but I could never find it when we shopped and she wouldn’t prescribe it, so I didn’t bother. However, getting some over the counter for Maggie, I looked elsewhere and found a higher strength so started taking it myself. It certainly helps.
