4) If you watch “Memoirs of a Geisha”, there’s a scene where Sayuri sleeps on a similar “taka-makura” (高枕), or “high-pillow”, to protect her hair.
The Japanese pejorative for one is “bachi-makura” (罰枕), or “punishment pillow”.
I don’t know. But if the makura (pillow) is pointed north, or “kita-makura” (北枕), you’ll have nightmares. (Only dead people are supposed to sleep in that direction.)
But it won’t matter if you’re visited by a “makura-gaeshi” (枕返し), a pillow-flipping spirit. They’ll move the pillow from under your head to under your feet while you’re sleeping… or just flip your whole body so your feet are on your pillow. Probably account for a lot of bad-hair days.
Nowadays the loveseat is not an oversized chair to accommodate women’s excessively wide dresses. Rather, it is an oversized chair to accommodate women’s excessively wide butts.
As if sea otters weren’t cute already. We have both sea otters and river otters near where we live. Last winter, when we got a fair amount of rain, I saw an otter doing the whole inchworm thing across the road to get to the other side of a flooded field.
I have the ability to turn both of my feet into left feet when I dance.

Yes, they are so cute and how cool that you live close to them! I can just imagine how it must have looked seeing the otter do the inchworm thing.

The elephant’s huge capacity for liquids suggests that it would be difficult to get one drunk.

Right! The next time I’m in Central America for sure. They are pretty stinkin’ cute to watch even if they don’t share their footwork skills.
