Sunday’s Flash Fiction- A Letter from the Battlefield of the Civil War

Dearest Sweetheart,

My heart is so lonely without you! Every night when I look at the shining moon, I say a prayer, and hope that perhaps you are looking at the moon too.

That in that small way our hearts are connecting.

Passed a field of wildflowers yesterday as we were marching: the wind blew the sweet scent over to me and I thought of you and your enticing perfume. My arms ached to hold you once more and breathe in the pleasant aroma of your love.

Passed a lake and I remembered the day you and I went out in a rowboat for a afternoon of peaceful serenity. OH how I LONG for that peace now! My heart hammers at every bullet that whizzes by and I see my comrades fall. I pray to God that he will keep me alive to see your beautiful face once more.

I have to go my love, its time to eat. The food has no comparison to your tasty cooking! Shucks, even if you would burn the Sunday morning biscuits, they would taste yummy in comparison to this gruel!

I will Love you Forever, and my dear, look at the moon tonight!

Sealed with a kiss,

Your Adoring Henry
