Trivia Fun

A few weeks ago I had a little trivia game on here. I was impressed with your guesses, some of you were very close to the correct answers. I have such clever “followers!” I thought I would give you all another opportunity today. Once again there will be 6 trivia questions. You can answer one, two or all of them, in the comments below. I did make them a little easier this time. The ones who get closest to the correct answer will get a “prize” and the prizes will be different from last time. I will point out that this time I made sure that the questions have definitive answers, all details are covered! Take a chance, give it your best shot, you have nothing to lose and hopefully a little fun to have. I will reveal the answers and winners tonight. Oh yes, and remember the one rule, No Googling for the answers! 🙂

  1. In feet how tall was the tallest recorded sand castle?
  2. What was the age of the youngest person known to climb to the top of Mt.Everest?
  3. In miles per hour, how fast can an ostrich run? (Being that the ostrich is well rested and there are no weather conditions preventing it from running at its typical speed.)
  4. In months, how long did the Pony Express last?
  5. How many men have walked on the moon?
  6. How many constellations are there?

Game Time!

It’s time to exercise your brain a little bit again. We are going through our games and I found a game that we have with fun questions, so its Game Time! The rules are simple. All you do is leave your best guesses in the comments below. For those who guess the closest to the correct answer there is a prize! Really! But No Googling! Just give it your best shot! I will reveal the answers later tonight.

  1. On average how many ants and termites does a giant anteater swallow each day?
  2. How many bats live in the Bracken Cave in Texas?
  3. In skips, what is the world record for stone skipping?
  4. How many miles can a bee fly in a day?
  5. How many cranberries does it take to make one gallon of cranberry juice?

She wasn’t real!

I have mentioned before how I have loved to read since I have been very young. I always had a book pretty much everywhere I went. I remember visiting with my parents when I was younger and sitting in the middle of a room with adults conversing about things I didn’t understand. Didn’t bother me a bit, for I just would lose myself in a book. Books were a constant friend of mine and they continue to be to this day. Just don’t have quite as much time as I had a child to read them!

I could never be a contestant on the Jeopardy show. I am nowhere close to being an expert on different kinds of trivia. My brain has way too many other things to remember! But now when it comes to books that is one category that I feel I can sometimes be pretty good about knowing different facts. I know the authors of well known books, well … at least I thought I did!

Tonight I learned that “Carolyn Keene” really doesn’t exist, the author of the Nancy Drew series that I read when I was young. Here I thought it was cool that the author was named “Carolyn”, but nope, the real person with the idea for the Nancy Drew mysteries wasn’t even a woman! It was Edward Stratemeyer.

I claim to know a lot about books, but yet I didn’t know this! I am ..smacking my head… for the 2nd time today.

Apparently he was the man behind a lot of other books as well.  He was also behind the series that I loved as a child, “The Bobbsey Twins”. That was another series where I remembered the author’s name all these years, “Laura Lee Hope”, but once again there really is no one with that name!

Yes, I know ghost writers have been around for a long time, but I just didn’t know it about these specific series. Plus this wasn’t just an author that used a different name. Both of these series were written by several different authors. Edward started them off, but then hired lots of different writers to continue with the series. He would write a 3 page outline about what he would like the book to be about and then he would hand it over. He would pay the writer between $50-$250 for each book, and he would collect all the royalties.

Perhaps this isn’t news to anyone, for I am used to being in the dark abut things, but I would like to think I enlightened someone. 🙂

Is there some new trivia fact that you have learned that you didn’t know before, feel free to share below!

Love it or Hate it?

Eggnog….Love it or Hate it?  No this post isn’t only about Egg Nog, it is just what is on my mind, for my hubby walked in the door a short while ago with it in his hand.  It isn’t Christmas without Eggnog.  Okay, so maybe that is exaggerating a little. But I have liked it since I have been little.  It has been a tradition for many years.

Any food or drink that is on your Christmas menu every year, or was on your menu when you were a child?    Sweet Potato Pudding is another favorite of mine.  I also remember my Mom making Cathedral Windows, Pecan Sandies and Pecan Surprise Bars.  Now my taste buds are starting to tingle!   Oh yes I can’t forget my Dad’s Mincemeat pie!  Okay onto something else besides food!

I was reading a book at work today and learned a fun fact that I don’t remember knowing before.  I am wondering if I am the only person who never knew.  Hoping that I may enlighten someone out there with this fact.  I learned how Teddy Bears got their name!  Who doesn’t love a Teddy Bear?  They are the most popular stuffed animal.  They were named after our 26th President, Theodore, “Teddy”  Roosevelt!  I remember studying about the Presidents in school but I don’t remember them ever sharing that fact.  Please feel free to speak up if you also somehow missed this little fact!

If you already did know that fact, here are a few other ones that perhaps you don’t know.  Yes, we all need some extra information to store in our brains.  You are welcome. 🙂

Only Female mosquitoes bite.  Hmmm….  Not going to comment on that one!

Dr.Seuss was challenged by a friend to write a book using no more than 50 different words.  He did!  The result….Green Eggs and Ham! 🙂

The duffel bag gets its name from Duffel, Belgium!

In 1934 Hawaiian Punch was originally developed as a tropical flavored ice cream topping!

Any little facts you would like to share?  Feel free to share in the comments below.

Have a Delightful Friday night with perhaps a glass of Eggnog in one hand and a book in the other? 🙂  Or Eggnog on the table while music is playing and you are writing out Christmas cards?  Eggnog on the table as you are wrapping presents?  Eggnog in the kitchen as you are baking cookies.   See its kind of like Green Eggs and Ham…. It goes with anything!

Whatever you are doing tonight, I hope you are smiling!

An Early Morning

Good Morning! I was awake way too early this morning? 4am! Crazy to be wide awake at that time, but I was. Any clue as to why, for I don’t have any. I did end up texting my sister who was up at 4am to get on the plane to come back home. I told her she must be the reason, since her brain was awake, so was mine! We do tend to share the same brain at times.

I went back to sleep at 6, but only slept for a hour until I awoke again. So now I am listening to Pandora on my computer and enjoying the stillness of the morning. I have already done a load of laundry, but who knows how productive the rest of my day will be. I have a feeling that the following picture may define me by this afternoon.

984da84fc9ea242915a26de29df480e2 It was an exciting book, but…..

Perhaps something so exciting will happen today that will keep me wired and awake! Maybe? Yes? No, probably not! What do you think?

I heard yesterday that it is always good to keep the brain working, brain therapy they say! Since I care about the health of your brains, here is some fun trivia for all of you. Trivia that has to do with “The Odessa Chronicles”,  the book that Colin and I are currently working on.  A book for the young and old. It is about our wonderful, crazy friends; Odessa, Dewey, Jaxon and of course the Man-servant! If you haven’t read any of our stories about Odessa the Barn Owl, Dewey the Tabby Cat, Jaxon the Jackalope and the Man-servant, then wait no longer. They are humorous,  fun, special characters that we have come to love. Here is a link to the latest story about them. The Big Wheel

Now get those brains working! I promise I won’t make you strain your brains too hard!  Think you can get them all right? Have fun, just guess if you don’t know. For you never know you may turn out being right.

1. What are 2 of Dewey’s favorite things to do?

2.  Who can be sassy putting the others  in their place pretty quickly with their quick wit?

3. Who thought they had a wonderful plan to make Dewey be able to fly, what could possibly go wrong? (answer found in Dewey’s Flight!)

4. Who can be sly and give back as good as he gets?

5. Where do they all live?

6. On a scale of 1 to 10, how good is Dewey at being patient?

7. Who was stranded while being up high, deciding to just enjoy the view?

8. This question is from a story further back, but I am sure there are some of you that remember. Who took a long journey, leaving behind their friends at the Farm? (making them curious, not to mention me, as I was sent the story part by part each day. Yes, Colin enjoys testing my curiosity!)
