When the Bell was Silenced

The following story is a continuation of the story from Thursday’s post, One More Ring!

Chad leaned back in his chair and then turned his head to look for Cara, but didn’t see her anywhere.

“Where is Cara, I really need some more coffee!”

Lisette and Sarah didn’t see her either, then they all turned their heads as a man walked in the door. Sarah couldn’t help but be struck with how handsome he looked with his dark, brown wavy hair.  He stood in place, looking around, and frowning at seeing no one behind the counter.

They all jumped a little at the loud clatter they heard coming from the back room. Soon Cara appeared, “Don’t worry, everything is ….”  She stopped in mid-sentence as her eyes landed on Mr.Picklefoot. Her cheeks quickly turned a light shade of red. “Oh Mr.Picklefoot, I… I… didn’t expect to see you. I thought you were taking the rest of the day off.”  Cara sputtered out, standing there holding a Double Chocolate Mint Latte in her hand.

Mr. Picklefoot raised his eyebrows, “I thought I had said to close up the Cafe for the rest of the day, and do I want to know what caused that clatter earlier?”

“I think this would be a good time for me to go to the back room and start cleaning up. Oh, I think that customer may want more coffee.”  Cara said, pointing at Chad, while she  quickly retreated to the back room.

Mason Picklefoot shook his head, he was sure that someday he was going to lose his last threads of sanity! He grabbed the coffee pot and walked over to the customer that Cara had pointed to.

Chad smiled, as Mason refilled his cup. “Thank you sir, and let me tell you that this Shoo-Fly pie is divine!  A great idea you have here, selling pies with your coffee.  Lisette and Sarah heartily agreed.

“I am so glad you enjoyed the pie”, said Mason, trying to hide the confused look on his face, as he took their plates and headed back to the counter.

“Well, my mind is still swirling with all that you have told me.” Chad said, to Lisette.

“I know its a lot to take in. Maybe we can take a walk and talk some more.” Lisette suggested.

Sarah agreed, thinking she would let them walk alone while she checked out some of the other shops in the town. They left a generous tip for Cara, for she had been so sweet to them.

When they walked out the door, Mason quickly walked towards the door and turned the “Open” sign to “Closed.”

“Cara! Are you finished cleaning?” He called out, he wasn’t going to leave her here alone again. A few minutes later she came walking out with a big smile.

“Yes, all cleaned up.”

“Since I am here, I think I will get a piece of Shoo-fly pie, before I head back out.” said Mason.

Cara’s smile quickly disappeared from her face.

“By the way, what did those customers mean, about us selling pies?” Mason asked, as he walked to the back room.

“Heyyy…what happened to my pie?” he yelled. He heard the door bang shut, and when he came back out, Cara was nowhere to be seen.

Mr. Tippner was biking down the street and Cara wasn’t looking as she stepped out right in front of him. He quickly swerved, causing him to run into Miss. Victoria’s  fruit stand, sending apples and oranges flying. Victoria stood there with her hands on her hips, “I hope you are prepared to pay me for all my bruised apples!” she said to Mr. Tippner.

Meanwhile Sarah had seen a craft shop that she wanted to look around in. Lisette and Chad continued walking down the street talking about the magical cow bell. Lisette was kind of distracted though with growing feelings for Chad. It was normal now for them to hold hands as they were walking. They hadn’t talked much about their feelings, but could something be developing, dare she get her hopes up.

Sarah came walking out with 2 bags in her hand. The craft projects she had picked out would make some nice gifts. She wondered how far Chad and Lisette had walked, she figured she would catch up to them eventually. Sure enough it wasn’t long before she saw them sitting on a park bench. She smiled, as she watched them laughing together. Lisette’s eyes shined, and Sarah was happy for her, she hoped that Chad would stay around.

Looking down the street she wondered if there were more shops she should check out. Ahh! A flower shop, she loved flowers. She thought she would go in and choose some to help decorate the Inn.

“I think we should use the cow bell to get back to the Inn and then you store it in a safe place, not to be touched again, for who knows where you might go next time! I don’t want you disappearing.” Chad said, with a twinkle in his eye. “I have been thinking, and am trying to work out a deal with my boss to be able to work from a special, Bed and Breakfast Inn. Do you think that would be OK with the owner of the Inn, if I extended my stay?”

Lisette felt herself grow warm and she couldn’t stop smiling, as Chad leaned in closer and gave her a gentle kiss. Her hand trembled with excitement. Ring, ring, ring! POOF! The smoke cleared and they were back standing in front of the Inn.

“I am glad it brought us back here, one never knows …” Lisette said as she looked at the bell in the palm of her hand. Just then a big gust of wind came blowing the bell out of her hand and into the street, right in front of a truck that ran over it.

Lisette stared in shock. It had taken her to several different places, they never had figured out exactly how it worked and now she guessed they would never know. Then a thought struck her, as she squeezed Chad’s arm and yelled, “OH NO! Sarah! We forgot Sarah!”

Sarah walked out of the flower shop a hour later. She hadn’t planned on taking that long, but there were just so many beautiful flower arrangements to look at. She couldn’t wait to show Lisette what she had bought. Looking towards the park bench, she noticed it was empty. They must have continued on walking through the town.

Sarah kept walking but her arms were growing tired, and it was hard to see, for the flowers were partially blocking her sight.

“Oh! I am sorry!” she said in embarrassment as she bumped into someone’s shoulder. Looking up she realized it was Mr.Picklefoot!

“Its Ok, your hands look pretty full. Can I help you carry these flowers? Where are you headed to?” he asked Sarah.

Good question, she thought, where was she headed to?

“I was just looking for my friends. I think they are enjoying exploring your little town.” Sarah replied.

“Well, why don’t we take these flowers back to the Cafe for now. If you would like I could show you around a bit.” he said, with a warm smile.

Sarah’s heart fluttered, as she replied. “Sure! That sounds fine.” She suddenly felt in no hurry to find Lisette and Chad.

Open Arms

This is Part 2 to my story from Thursday, Hope in a Bottle

Annaliese was all packed up and ready to go, but her stomach was a jumble of nerves. She was unsure as to whether this day would ever come and the more time that passed the more she had believed that it would never come. Now here she was ready to board a ship and travel back to face a world that she had ran away from.

The ship pulled up to the dock, it was now or never. She could turn back and go home, continue her solitary existence, but was that what she really wanted? Or did she want to take this chance to make peace with her past? She took a deep breath in and tried to stand up tall as she walked onto the ship. She felt a surge of confidence, though when she reached her destination she was afraid that it might flee!

Later that evening she had woke from her nap and walked out to the top deck. Went to the rail and gazed out at the calm sea. Her mind went back to a time long ago, a time when she was on this ship before, but headed the opposite direction. She had been running away and now she was going back. Her sweet Aunt had begged her to come back. Annaliese had called her that night after getting the message in the bottle. Her Aunt was choked up and could barely talk, hearing her voice again. Annaliese had choked up as well and tears had been shed. Tears over all the time that had been lost. All because of a crazed woman that had lost her mind.

Her Aunt had always been there for her! When Annaliese’s Dad died, it had been so hard, but her Aunt was there with comfort. She helped Annaliese continue on and not lose herself in despair. Things were finally  going better, Annaliese was feeling the dark cloud of grief lifting, but then Ginger, who had been dating her Dad for awhile went plumb crazy! She had never liked Annaliese and now that Richard was dead, she took out all her anger and grief on Annaliese. At first Annaliese just felt she was a nuisance, but then Ginger started really  worrying her. When she made an actual death treat against Annaliese, she knew she had to leave.

It had broken her Aunt’s heart when Annaliese boarded the ship to leave town, but her Aunt had agreed that she needed to get away. She had told Annaliese about the small, isolated, island, a place where Ginger would never find her. The bad thing about the place was phone service was very erratic, so her Aunt could barely contact her. They had talked only a couple times since she had been away.

Lost in her thoughts, Annaliese watched the stars come out and admired the reflection of the moon in the water. She made a wish on a star and breathed a prayer that this new start would be a good one for her. It took a little while, but later that night Annaliese finally fell into a deep sleep. Dreaming about what tomorrow would bring.

The morning dawned clear and bright. Annaliese was a mixture of nerves and excitement. A few hours of sailing was all it would take to reach her destination. The town of Blue Bonnet Hill. She paced the deck unable to stand still. At last they were drawing near to shore. Her heart started to beat fast as she looked for her Aunt. When the ship docked, she kept looking and then her eyes spied her. A lump formed in her throat. But wait, who was the man holding her Aunt’s hand? They were both waving to Annaliese. They looked so happy. Did her Aunt have a new love? She had said she had news to tell Annaliese, when she was on the phone, but then it was cutting out again, so they said goodbye and hung up. Was this the “news”?

People were diembarking off the ship. Annaliese got in line, anticipation building. She walked off, looking again for her Aunt and then she was grabbed from the side, as her Aunt embraced her.

“Oh my precious girl, how I have missed you!”

The well of tears inside Annaliese let loose and she clung to her Aunt, wrapped in her arms of love.

On The Road Again

This post is a continuation of Monday’s story, Looking for Adventure!

Tanya looked both ways before crossing the road, and making  her way towards the woods. She thought back to another woods, that was far away. The woods that she hid out in for awhile. She remembered the man in the woods who had owned the annoying, talking chicken. The chicken man had appeared to be a kind man, it was really a shame that she had to kill him, but she had to get his gold somehow. She started whistling as she entered the woods.

“Do you hear that? Someone is whistling.” Ethan said to Jade.

“Maybe its someone that can help us.” Jade said.

They both stared straight ahead waiting for the person to come into view. Jade screamed and Ethan stood there in wide eyed disbelief! It was HER!

Tanya couldn’t believe her eyes, she stopped whistling and her pulse began to race.

Ethan drew in a deep breath and then lashed out at Tanya, demanding his money and keys. He was stunned as Tanya said nothing, but her eyes looked wild with fright. Was she actually afraid of him? She grabbed his wad of cash out of her jeans pocket and threw it at him, along with his keys. Then she turned around and ran so fast, it was as if something was chasing her!

Jade and Ethan were in shock, but so happy!

“She looked so scared! Definitely not the tough girl that she had appeared to be when she robbed us.” said Jade.

“I know, that was so strange, but hey, we got my keys, lets go find my truck! ”

They started to walk out of the woods, when they heard a voice behind them.

“Glad you got your money and keys back. I could tell that girl was trouble and I thought I would give her a scare. I guess I succeeded!” and he let out a deep chuckle.

Now it was Jade and Ethan whose eyes were big with fright, when they turned around. They were staring into the face of a huge black bear!

“Oh don’t worry, I am harmless. I won’t hurt you. I didn’t want to roar for I knew then you all would be scared as well. I just stood up on my back legs and made a very menacing face at that lady. My name is Bobo, nice to meet you.”

Jade and Ethan were speechless.  A talking bear? Maybe they were dehydrated and starting to get delusional. Before they could get their thoughts together they saw a hippo come walking towards them with 2 turtles on her back. Could this day get any more crazier!

“HI Bobo! You did great! We watched the whole thing. That was hilarious to see her run!” Henrietta said.

“You…you… talk too?” questioned Ethan, shaking his head in confusion.

“Yes, she talks, and so do we! Do you humans really think that you are the only ones capable of speaking?” Myrtle asked.

“Welll…..” Ethan and Jade didn’t know what to say, they just started laughing. What an adventure this trip to Vegas was turning out to be!

“Thank you so much Bobo for your help! We very much appreciate it!”

Jade was looking at Henrietta for awhile and then said, “You are one very unique hippo, your neck is so long!”

“That’s not the only unique thing about me, I can sing too! Do you want to hear me?”

“I gotta go!” and Bobo.

“Wait! Take us with you.” cried Myrtle and Tulag as they climbed up on his back.

Jade and Ethan watched , feeling perplexed. Bobo was running away, as Henrietta opened her mouth and started to sing.

It didn’t take long for Jade and Ethan to figure out why Bobo and the turtles made a quick retreat. They grimaced as Henrietta continued. They didn’t want to be rude and run away from her too, so they stood there listening.

When she finally stopped, they breathed a sigh of relief.

“I never knew a hippo could sing, you are indeed a special hippo!” said Jade and Henrietta beamed with joy.

Jade and Ethan couldn’t help but feel drawn to Henrietta’s cheerful attitude. They all  kept talking as she shared her story with them about escaping from the zoo and meeting Myrtle and Tulag.

“Its been great meeting you Henrietta, but we should probably go now. We need to find my truck.” said Ethan

They said their goodbyes and Ethan and Jade couldn’t stop talking about everything as they walked out of the woods.

Henrietta smiled. What a nice couple they seemed to be and she was so glad that Bobo scared away that mean lady. Now she was going to head back towards the river, she was sure to find her friends there and she was ready for a cool swim.

When Jade and Ethan got out to the road they saw an ambulance, a police car and a tractor trailer driver looking very frazzled! As they got closer they heard the tractor trailer driver talking to the police.

“I didn’t see her! It was like she came out of nowhere! I couldn’t slow down in time, she was smack dab in front of me!”

Jade and Ethan looked at each other. “Do you think…?” asked Jade. They looked at the stretcher with the sheet over the body. and didn’t say a word.

They climbed into Ethan’s truck and he turned the key. it started right up. He put his arm around Jade. “Now to find that special chapel!” With love in her eyes, Jade kissed him as they drove down the road and out of sight.

Feelings of the Heart

This is the conclusion to the story that was posted on Thursday.  Finding Peace Enjoy!

Gavin and Camille walked slowly back to the lodge. They didn’t speak, there were no words to express the heaviness in their hearts. They had read about the strong bonds elephants make with each other and how they grieve. It had stirred their hearts when reading, but witnessing it deeply moved their hearts.

Sasha, the matriarch of her herd,  had died, and the other 9 elephants in her herd mourned her. They had made a circle around where she had fallen and stood tightly against each other. The elephants stood there for the whole day, extending their trunks and touching Sasha’s body. Then they slowly started picking up leaves with their trunks and covering her with them.

After lunch, Gavin decided to ride out to the other parts of the reserve. Get his mind off of Sasha and try to figure out how he felt about Camille. While he was riding, in the distance he saw the zebras running. If only everything could be so plainly black and white. His mind often resembled what the black and white colors looked like when the zebras ran, a big blur!

He had felt sorry for Camille when she opened up to him one night, as they were watching one of the amazing sunsets over the lake. She had been an only child and her parents had died when she was young. She had been raised by her grandparents. Her grandpa had died this past winter and her Grandma had died in the spring. Camille just needed to get away and have some time for herself. She needed to decide what direction her life was going to take now. Would she keep their house, stay in the town she had grown up in, or venture out to something new? She had been so busy taking care of them, that she really didn’t have many friendships. The kids she had grown up with had moved on with their lives. She was pretty much on her own, she had told him. Being from a big family, Gavin couldn’t imagine how she must feel.

Gavin stopped the Land rover and got out. He thought he would take a walk and see if he could find the new baby rhino that had recently been born. He didn’t have to walk too far, before he saw it under a tree with its Mama. It might be a baby, but it was far from small! It weighed 110 pounds. Derek had said that some baby rhinos could weigh as much as 140 pounds when they were born. Gavin laughed to himself, his Mom had thought that he was a big baby at 10 pounds!

He watched from a distance, he didn’t want to have to deal with an overprotective Mother Rhino. They had horns and they weighed a lot more than a baby rhino! He didn’t want to risk getting Mama mad. Mamas don’t like when you mess with their babies.  He was content to admire baby Zonya from afar. In time the Mama would let him get closer, just had to be patient.

His walkie talkie went off, and he heard Camille’s voice. “Gavin, what are you doing?”

“I am watching baby Zonya. Do you need me to do something?”

Camille’s frustrated voice came across the walkie talkie. “Yes, we have an elephant that got stuck in a poacher’s trap. Could you help me get her out?”

Gavin made a face, poachers made him so mad. All they cared about was money, they had no heart for the animals.

“I will be right there.”

He headed back to the Land Rover and took off. They were on a protected reserve, but poachers still tried, a lot of times they did manage to catch them, but unfortunately not all the times. Elephant and rhino tusks were worth a lot of money, and the poachers didn’t give up easily.

It didn’t take too long to get the elephant out of the trap, once two of them were working at it. Fortunately Nadia wasn’t harmed too badly,  If only it always turned out that way.

“Thanks for helping.” said Camille.

“Glad you called me. Want to take a walk to the lake?” Gavin asked. Before Camille could answer, they were interrupted by Derek calling to them.

“Hey guys!” Derek called, as he was strolling over to them.

“Do you two have plans for tonight?” he asked.

Gavin and Camille looked at each other and then Gavin looked at him and said, “Well, not exactly.”

Derek caught the look between the two of them and he smiled to himself. “How about we go out for supper tonight? Go into the city.”

Gavin saw Camille’s eyes light up, they hadn’t been off the reserve much, it would be nice to go out.

“Sure, sounds great.” said Gavin.

“Okay. I will meet you guys at my car at 6.” Derek said, and then he strode away.

Gavin looked at Camille. ” Guess we can walk to the lake another night.”

Camille agreed. “Yes, you probably don’t want to get all wet before heading into town, do you?” she said with a teasing glint in her eye.  Bubbles had managed to give him a few showers whenever they were down at the lake.

Camille’s mind was full, as she was back at the lodge getting dressed for the evening. What did she feel for Gavin? He was a really nice guy and seemed to have a caring heart. He had listened attentively when she was sharing her story.

She couldn’t deny that her heart was beginning to have that twitterpatted feeling whenever he was near. She sighed. Time would tell. For now, she wasn’t going to get too anxious about things, she just was ready to enjoy an evening out. Picking out her golden heart earrings, she put them on and smiled at her reflection in the mirror. She twirled around in her black dress. This summer was shaping up to be all she wanted and more.

Finding Peace

This is the second part  to Monday’s post. Here is the link, if you missed reading the first part. Summer with the Elephants

Gavin was walking through the reserve. He had only been on the reserve for 3 weeks now, but he felt like it had been a lot longer. He had fallen in love with the elephants and with the reserve. Gavin had always loved wide open spaces. Had wanted to live in the country as a child, but they lived in the city. Being here in Africa, on the elephant reserve, he felt like he was finally where he belonged, his heart was full.

One day Derek had taken Gavin and Camille out to see more of the reserve. It was huge, over 70,000 acres! There were more than just elephants! Gavin and Camille got to see giraffes and zebras and rhinos. Gavin was impressed at how graceful the giraffes looked as he watched them walk. They didn’t look gangly with their long necks, but elegant instead.

Gavin smiled to himself as he remembered that day. It had given him a chance to get to know Camille better. She had just come a week ago, but she took charge right away. She was so grateful to Derek for letting her come and Gavin could tell that she was going to work as hard as she could to show him that he had made the right decision. She was feisty with a lot of energy.

Camille was very friendly, and Gavin looked forward to working with her for the summer. She was average height, about 5’5 with dark brown hair that seemed to have a bronze glow to it. She had the cutest dimples when she smiled, and dark brown expressive eyes.

“Hey Gavin…”  Gavin turned his head to see Derek walking towards him.

“Did you need something?”  Gavin asked. I lost track of time walking around out here, just admiring the beauty.

“All is fine, I was just going to ask if you had seen Camille?” Gavin shook his head.

“Well if you see her, tell her I would like to see her please.”  Derek said. “Enjoy the rest of  your walk. I have been here for 7 years and I still get awed by its beauty.”  Derek clapped on him on the shoulder, and then turned to walk back to his office.

Gavin continued on his way. He decided to walk down to the lake. Maybe he would get to see the elephants and rhinos playing in the water. He walked on and when he arrived at the lake he saw that he wouldn’t be alone. Camille was sitting down by the water. She had her back turned, so she didn’t see Gavin coming.

He quietly walked down to her and she turned her head just as he was almost to her. Her face broke out into a bright smile. “Hi Gavin!” she said.

“Hi!” he replied, as he sat down beside her on the grass.

2 elephants were playing in the water. It was Kenna and her baby Bubbles. Bubbles loved the water. He kept spraying himself. Gavin and Camille sat in silence, watching the elephants.

Camille sighed. “This was just what I needed.” she said.

“Sitting down her by the lake?” questioned Gavin.

“No, coming here, this whole summer. A break from the real world.”

Gavin was quiet, seeing if she would say more. She hadn’t talked much about her life back home.

Her face was serene as Gavin looked at her.

“I just had to get away. You know, sometimes, one just needs an escape, right?”

Gavin nodded. “Yes, I understand.” he said, as questions were running through his mind.

Bubbles started walking towards Gavin. Gavin had been working with him these past 3 weeks and felt elated that Bubbles was coming to say HI. He lifted his trunk and sprayed Gavin with the cool lake water.

Camille was laughing, as she stood up. “I just noticed the time, I forgot I had a meeting with Derek. I better go. You may want to lie in the sun a little to dry off. See you at supper. ” she said with a twinkle in her eye.

Gavin watched her walk away, and he couldn’t help but smile as he turned back around and looked at Bubbles. He patted his trunk. Oh yes,  this could be an interesting summer Bubbles! Gavin was sure Bubbles smiled, as she nuzzled him with her trunk.

Summer with the Elephants

Gavin put his luggage in his room and collapsed on his king sized bed. He was exhausted after the long trip, but yet feeling excited that he finally was here.

He was looking at the pictures on the walls of his room. A room that would be his for the next 3 months. He was here on an internship for his zoology major. Gavin was thinking hard about working with elephants, he had always been fascinated by them. They were majestic creatures and very emotional animals. When he heard about the internship opportunity at one of the Elephant reserves, he jumped at it. This summer should show him if he really did want to make a career out of working with elephants.

Gavin had been told that there would be another person joining the internship program with him this summer. She was due to arrive next week. She had missed signing up and they had almost refused to let her come. The head of the program told Gavin that he usually isn’t a pushover, but she sounded so desperate, and that made him forget for a moment about the rules, and he let her come.

He hadn’t given much thought to the other young woman coming, but he couldn’t deny that his curiosity was sparked. He was guessing that she wasn’t in a serious relationship, for would she be coming to Africa for 3 months if she was? Time had healed the wound that Abby had left, and he felt a stirring in his heart. He just may be ready to find love again.

The clock said 3:00pm. Gavin had been told that supper would be served at 6. He was looking forward to trying African dishes. He had been told that Boboti and Fried Plaintains would be served tonight as the main dishes, along with Mazagran, African Iced Coffee. Right now though his mind was on sleep. Jet lag was quickly overtaking him, and within moments he was sound asleep.

Derek was sitting in his office making sure all the paperwork was correct and that everything was in order to begin Gavin’s internship tomorrow. Gavin had very impressive grades and wonderful recommendations from his Professors. His essay about why he wanted the internship was well written and Derek felt eager to get to know him better. There would be a full time opening at the reserve soon. He wondered if Gavin might consider it after his summer here.

His eyes fell on the application of the other applicant who had been late to register. She had just called 2 weeks ago inquiring about the internship program. Derek didn’t know what made him listen to her on the phone as she pleaded to be allowed to be in the program. She said how she really needed a summer away and he was in shock as he heard himself give in to her!

Now while going over her paperwork, he began to have his doubts. She wasn’t even in college anymore. She had graduated with a zoology degree but hadn’t used it, and now was desperate for a new beginning. Her grades weren’t overly impressive and she had no recommendations from Professors. There were a couple paragraphs written about her from a few people, but they didn’t say how they knew her. The paragraphs didn’t elaborate too much on her qualities, besides saying that she was a good person. Derek rubbed his temples. What had he done? What was this young lady’s story? There had to be more than what she had told him.

He put all the papers back in the folders, as he looked as his watch. It was soon time to meet Gavin, supper was due to be serve. Let the summer adventure begin!

(to be continued…)

Love at the Falls

For Part 1, here is the link, Mystery at the Falls

I hope you enjoy the conclusion!

Trisha stared down at the diamond ring in her hand, and looked around, wondering how many people had walked by it. How long had it been lying in the leaves? Her auburn hair was blowing in the wind as she stood there thinking about the person who dropped it.

Did they have any idea of where they had lost it at? How long did it take them to notice that it was missing? She could imagine the hopeless feeling that they had, if they thought they had dropped it in the woods. How could they hope to find it in a woods covered by leaves that had people traipsing through it every day to see the beautiful Falls.

Inspecting it closer she noticed writing engraved on the inside of the sparkling band. “You are my Rose!” The diamonds sparkled in the sun. It looked to be a very expensive ring. She slipped it into her pocket, determined to find the person it belonged too, though not sure how likely that was to happen. Her mind was thinking of ideas as she continued her climb to reach the top of the Falls.

Whoa! Trisha almost lost her balance as a man ran into her.

“I am so sorry”, the man said, with a frantic look on his face, as he continued running down the path.

Trisha stared after him and saw him looking down at the ground and crouching down picking up leaves. What was he doing, she thought. She started walking towards him. He was definitely frantic, and at one point he sat down and held his face in his hands.

“Excuse me sir, Can I help you?” Trisha asked, after she tapped him on the shoulder.

“I lost it! I can’t believe I lost it! Today was supposed to be so perfect and soon she is going to meet me at the top of the Falls and….” he let out a long moan!

Trisha’s heart went out to the poor man, who was literally starting to pull out his hair.  “What did you lose?”

“Her ring. I was going to propose to her today. She has changed my life in a thousand beautiful ways and today I was going to ask her to be my wife for a thousand years. I got up to the Falls, and went to pull the ring out of my pocket one more time to look at it and it was gone! It must have fallen out on my way up here, I will never find it!!”

Trisha broke out in goosebumps as she pulled the sparkling ring out of her pocket. “I am not sure if this is your ring, but I …” The guy’s face lit up like a thousand suns!

“You found it! You found it! Oh you are amazing!” He impulsively gave her a big hug!

“Thank you so very much! You have saved the day!”

Trisha’s heart was warmed by his enthusiasm and she wore a big smile as she watched him running towards the Falls.

She stood there for a few moments after he was out of sight and then turned around to head back. Tomorrow she would hike to the top of the Falls, today was their special day. She would go back to the rock she had been sitting on and listen to the roaring water some more. Maybe she would daydream about her Prince Charming. Her prince wasn’t  frantically looking for a lost ring. No, she figured that her prince was probably wandering around lost. Someone needed to show him the way to her,  for he probably wouldn’t ask for directions!

Simply Stunning

Jenna couldn’t stop smiling, it had been the perfect day. She was married! Her long awaited day had finally happened. She let her eyes wander over to the bridge where Cole was standing with his groomsmen. The photographer had wanted to snap a few more photos with the sun starting to set. Soon Jenna would join them, but for now she had stolen a few moments alone.

The way the sunbeam was coming through the one sunflower was so beautiful! Jenna really had really felt like a fairytale bride as she walked through the path of sunflowers earlier to meet Cole and say their vows.

Her bridal party had looked so pretty in their dresses of periwinkle blue, holding their simple bouquet of lovely Fall Flowers. Stargazing lilies, were among the flowers, and one of Jenna’s favorite. There were definitely stars in her eyes today.

Jenna’s friends had done an amazing job playing the music for the wedding. The violin with the cello filled the field with beautiful music.

She looked over towards the bridge again, watching Cole, he was laughing with his friends and then his eyes caught hers, and his love shined bright. His smile warmed her heart. He had been her stable rock over the past month when Jenna was getting frantic about all that could go wrong. How it could rain, or what if the flower girl got sick, what if a bad storm came and destroyed the sunflowers. Her mind would start to go 100mph, and Cole would gently remind her that nothing would ruin the most special day of their lives! He was right, as he usually was, the day had been perfect!

Her eyes roamed to the farmhouse, that stood empty now. Farmer Ben had planted the Sunflowers for her, but last month he had moved to a warmer climate to retire. He had given the few animals that he had to his brother who lived out West. It felt strange not seeing the cow watch her from the field or hearing the rooster crow, but they were long gone, and far away now.

Life was changing and Jenna was so ready for this new adventure. Everything was packed, after a honeymoon at the Fiji islands, they would be moving to their new home by the beach.

The photographer was walking towards Jenna. “Stay right there. Don’t move. You look stunning standing by that sunflower with the sunbeam shining through.”

She started snapping pictures as Jenna’s eyes found Cole’s once more.

“Perfect, just perfect!” the photographer said, and Jenna couldn’t agree more.
