About

HI! Welcome to my blog! This is a first for me. I have always loved writing! Started a family newspaper when I was only 8 years old, charged my siblings and parents a quarter for a copy 🙂 Started journaling at the age of 13, when my beloved brother passed away suddenly due to a heart attack.  I have tons of journals now ! Writing can be a private thing to deal with all kinds of emotions and it can be public, used  to reach out to others and touch their lives in ways that you may have never dreamed of. That is what I want my writings to be now, I want to touch others! I want to get more serious about writing and see where it will take me.  So come along on my journey , laugh and cry at my posts and feel free to leave feedback!  Thank you for your time and blessings as you read!

I am a Mother of 2 awesome kids, 12 and 15 years old.  They are always teaching me things! Married to a wonderful husband of 19 years! I am truly blessed!

  1. I agree with Max — you have a lovely blog, full of vividly described scenes and heartfelt emotions! And your header image is so bright and peaceful, it’s like taking a deep breath of serenity. Beautiful! This year I’ve been on a virtual quest to find and comment on a positive blog every day, seeking to improve my mindset and bring more joy to the world. I keep a list of my discoveries on my own blog, and have added yours as today’s entry. 🙂

  3. Hi Meg, I love the name of your blog! I am so sorry for the loss of your brother! I have three sisters who are invaluable to me and I can’t imagine the sadness in losing them. I did lose my best friend suddenly last year but as you said, I found comfort in writing about it. My story is called “Amazing Grace” if you ever have time to visit my blog. You may enjoy my short tribute. Thank you for liking my scale photo! Yes, he is quite courageous. I have two sons, Different in every way. One likes spicy, the other plain. One is blonde, the other dark. The one in photo is the younger (13) and is fearless unlike his older brother who is more cautious by nature! Have great day!

    • HI! Thanks for your sympathy! Yes, losing a family member is a big chunk of your heart cut out! I just read about your best friend. I dread the day that happens, for Best Friends are priceless! Yes, writing is such a great outlet. I did write about my brother in a post called The Day the Birds Stopped Singing if you want to read it. It was for a writing course that WordPress had offered. Your sons sound like my daughters. They are as different as night and day!! Thanks for liking my orange photo challenge and glad I found your blog. I just started doing the photo challenges, they are fun. Enjoy the rest of your day!

      • I was dumbstruck when I rec’d your comment about “Amazing Grace” as I had just suggested moments before on your blog comment page you do so! I would love to read your post and will re-visit later today to do so. I love the photo challenges to! but the problem is they are my procrastination for writing which is my true love.

  8. I’m sure your childhood newspaper and adolescent journals are a treasure trove! I did similar scribblings when I was young, and now I am so thankful I did! I didn’t think about it at the time, but now I feel like I was preserving a part of my life that I can never get back.

A day undocumented is a day lost!

I look forward to more posts from you. Love your blog’s tagline!

  9. I don’t believe that I’ve been on this page before! What a lovely introduction to a Blog. I hope that it has met, or exceeded, your expectations… and that it continues to do so. You certainly get to meet some interesting people through blogging eh! 🙂

    • Well Thank you 🙂 Yes it has exceeded my expectations, being that I really didn’t know what to expect. The biggest surprise may definitely be how blogging opened the door to meeting all kinds of interesting people! Who would have thought! One day I am blogging and the next I am addressing packages to Canada, that far off land where it always snows 🙂

  10. Fellow journal writer here, I bet your journals and newspapers are a great read for your family. I’ve thought about dumping mine, not sure I had anything interesting to say back then. It was more of an off loading exercise. Happy Easter weekend

    • Journals are so fun to go back and read. My kids have enjoyed parts of my journals that I have shared with them. Especially the parts of when they were really little.
I do still have my family newspapers and yes they have been fun to read as well. Not that they had that much to say, but just fun to see what I thought was important back then. Don’t dump yours, I bet they will bring some smiles later on. They are a part of you.
Glad you found my site, hope you enjoy it! My blog is quite the variety.

Sorry about the loss of your brother
And I have boxes of notebooks too – so I agree with how you mention the support system and therapeutic tool writing can be.

  12. It’s interesting how many bloggers started out writing diaries and journals. Our need to communicate is strong! I have a filing cabinet full of old journals – just from the past 20 years. I keep promising myself I will clean it out some day 😏

    • Hi! Yes it is! Writing is just so therapeutic to me
LOL about your filing cabinet. Sounds like me! I know that my kids will have quite the treasure in them when I am gone and at the same time I am thinking. do I want them to see everything??

      • Your question should be “Do I want them to see the real me with all my quirks and imperfections, or do I want to present a false image of me?” Given that you will not be around to see the outcome, it would seem to me that a real presentation would be desired. Anything less than the “real you” could negatively impact their own self-image if they compare their own imperfections, poor decisions, mistakes etc. against the perceived perfect Mom!
Let them know that to err is human, and that you are human. Let them know that you also made mistakes and learned the hard way. Let them know of your challenges in life and how you dealt with them. It will simply give them the peace of mind to know that, regardless of what others may say, they are simply normal human beings learning the hard way … like everybody else, including their Mom! 🙂

        • Oh my I really can’t argue with that logic can I!
They do know that I am far from perfect. I do think they know my quirks and idioscrancies pretty well! But I know what you mean about sharing experiences where you messed up. Yes, those experiences are important for them to know , even if not real easy to tell. I do want to help their self image all that I can .

  13. It IS really easy to tell. Write down all the details … seal it up … and note “Not to be opened until after I have gone!”
Of course it would be more beneficial to share your history while you are alive, as you will be able to answer questions which, in turn, will give them a greater understanding of your life … and a more accurate/realistic perspective on their own lives. 🙂

  15. Hi Joy. I’ve seen you around some of the same blogs I follow and decided to see what your story was all about. I don’t really need another blog to follow (sigh), but here I am.🤣 The part that hit home with me was your journaling. You might think it’s because I journal a lot too—not necessarily, but I went through a journal phase after I retired from teaching. It was my way of processing and letting go of my career. It was never part of the plan, but I wrote a book for the next generation of teachers based on those journals.
My mom was the one in the family who journaled about everything under the sun. I always knew she journaled a lot, but it wasn’t until she was much older that I came to understand how important this was to her. She had grocery bags full of journals, often of the most mundane things. She lived a decade after my dad passed away and continued to journal. When she moved to a care home and slipped further into dementia, I visited her and read from her journals to her. Occasionally, there’d be a spark as if I had triggered a memory somewhere in her confused state. I’ll never forget that—best wishes to you.

    • Hi Pete! Thanks for the “follow” and for taking the time to comment on here.
Journaling really does help you process things doesn’t it! How cool that you wrote a book to help other teachers. My hat goes off to you for being a teacher and making a difference in students lives!

The story of your Mom touched my heart. How kind of you to read from her journals and for it to unlock memories for her at times. I can just imagine how that must have felt for both of you.
Makes me think again of how special journals can be! To the writer and the reader.

I understand about not needing another blog to follow, so I feel honored. 🙂
Its kind of a little bit of everything on my blog, I have serious posts at times on different issues, but its been more stories lately. I want to try to keep people smiling through rhis crazy year! I love letting my imagination go and writing short fictional stories.

As much as I love writing I love just as much interacting with my followers in the comments! I will warn you now that the comments can get crazy and Jim helps with that! LOL!

Have a great day and I hope you enjoy my blog!

  16. Hey, Joy. I guess you know by now how much I enjoy your posts. The stories and unique facts you find are sometimes the highlight of my day. At one time, I had your email address, but apparently when I updated my Yahoo address, the contacts list disappeared. I’ve run across a number of things that I thought you would want to use for your Tuesday thoughts but no way to get them to you. If you don’t mind, would you send me an email at barbaraect@yahoo.com so we can reconnect via email?
