Tuesday’s Thoughts!

Can it really be 8 days til Christmas?! Are your stockings hung by the chimney with care? What is playing on your stereo? The following well known song is one of many that get played from our favorite Christmas CD’s this time of year. Pretty sure you will recognize the title and know who it is by without me saying it. Enjoy! And remember to enjoy the quotes as well! Now you have background music for them. 🙂

24 years and counting!

Across the crowded room their eyes met …. and the man with the dazzling emerald green eyes asked the young lady what she thought of Indiana. Entranced with his eyes and charming smile, all she could say was beautiful. He laughed as he had never heard the cornfields of Indiana quite described that way before.

She had just flown in to meet her friend who was getting married the next day, New Year’s Eve! Oh what a romantic time to get married the young lady thought with her heart bursting with happiness for her dear friend. She was very glad that she had been able to make it work and fly the 500 miles to come be in her wedding. She had no idea what a difference that weekend would make.

Fast forward 25 years later and today that young lady who said that Indiana was “beautiful” and the man with the emerald green eyes are celebrating 24 years of marriage!

Yes, it took only 2 days, a rehearsal dinner, as we were both in the wedding party, and then a New Year Eve’s party after the wedding, that he invited her too. 2 days for magic to strike and almost exactly a year later we walked down the aisle again, but this time as husband and wife.

Okay, I am done with being sweet and sappy before anyone groans. 🙂 This may be our 24th anniversary, but I still do not consider myself a marriage expert in any way! You take 2 flawed individuals and at times they make a wonderful combination in spite of their flaws. Concentrating on what draws the two of you together instead of focusing on the differences you may have, is what can make for a JOYful ride!

Thankful for the blessing from above, for the one who in spite of my quirks keeps loving me! What can I say, the magic spell I put him under 25 years ago apparently worked! It made him a “HAPPY” Brad!

A Little about Little Me!

I was catching up on reading posts and came across this one from Di, https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2019/12/13/wanna-know-you-better-13-dec/

It was a fun read and she opened it up for others to answer the questions too, so I thought why not!  I am sure these aren’t questions that have been keeping you up at night wondering about, but thought you still may enjoy seeing the answers. If you do have some questions keeping you up at night, feel free to ask them in the comments below. 🙂 And feel free to share your answers to any of the questions listed if you would like! There is always things we can learn about each other. Whether they be big or little things, they can still be interesting.

7 “briefly explain” questions:

  1. What really makes you angry? It has to be something major! I am not saying that I don’t get upset about things, for I do, but to be really angry is a different story. I just don’t like wasting time getting my blood pressure up!
  2. What is your favorite food that you can not do without? Hmmm…I enjoy a variety but I really do love Mexican food, and pizza.
  3. If you could live any where in the world, where would that be? Where my family is. 🙂 There are a lot of beautiful places in this world, and many places I would still love to visit, but I am very happy at where I am right now. Though yes, I would like to live closer to the beach!
  4. What is your favorite method to relieve stress? Journaling, writing, talking with friends/family, music and laughing!
  5. Would you rather live on the Moon or on Mars for two years? I would rather keep  my feet firmly planted on earth!
  6. What is your favorite type of weather? Not too hot, not too cold and the sun is shining.
  7. What is your favorite sport to play or watch? I have never been good at sports, unless you count when I was in elementary school and played kickball. That was one sport I did enjoy, oh and climbing the ropes in gym class. We would have a competition with the boys against the girls to see who could get up the rope the fastest. I usually won! It helps at times to be very small in stature. Didn’t take much for me to pull myself up the rope.  I love watching ice skating during the Olympics.

9 “this or that” questions:

  1. Beach or Mountains? Beach but I do enjoy the mountains too.
  2. Fish or fried chicken wings? Fish
  3. Swimming or climbing hills? I have never been much of a swimmer, though I enjoy floating in the water. Climbing hills or actually just hiking along flat ground is fine.
  4. Steak or Lamb? Steak
  5. Summer or Winter? Summer
  6. Countryside or city? Countryside
  7. Spring or Autumn? Both
  8. Political Science or Statistics? Neither! Science and Numbers is just not for me!
  9. A Train or Airplane Ride? Before this past summer I would have said airplane but after our trip on the train, I would prefer the train anytime! Rocked to sleep every night and no turburlence!

Fun in Winter Wonderland

2 weeks until Christmas, the North Pole was abuzz with activity. There was barely any time for sleeping, as the elves were feverishly working and burning the midnight oil.

Jinx and Jangle were trying their best to stay awake, Snowball’s eyes were going closed once again as Jangle shook him awake  and said, “Do You Hear what I Hear?”

“Wh..what?” said Snowball rubbing his eyes.

“Santa Clause is coming to Town”, Jangle replied with a big smile. The music played as Santa walked into the Toy room, all smiles, carrying a big radio with him. “HO HO HO!” Santa said as his jolly belly shook like a bowlful of jelly.

“I brought music to help keep you all awake. You guys are doing great, keep it up for you know Christmas can’t be late!”

And with those words, “The Christmas Song” by Alvin and the Chipmunks started to play.

When it ended a lot of elves breathed a sigh of relief. “Mele Kalikamanaka”  started playing after it, and Jinx and Jangle sang along with it, as it reminded them of their vacation in Hawaii. Oh the days of being warm in the beautiful sunshine.

“Hey Little Drummer Boy”, Candy Cane yelled to Jangle. ” Are you almost done with that drum?”

“just a minute”,  he said, as he did a few more “pa- rum- pum- pum- pum’s”  on it before handing it over.

“Sleighride” played while Jinx finished painting the cherry red sleigh.

Starlight was singing “Away in the Manger” to herself as she intently painted the nativity set that she had. She was a wonderful artist.

The clock struck midnight and Jinx thought everyone needed something to perk them up so he ran through the aisles decking the floor and everyone else with his secret stash of glittery confetti that he had.

A few more hours passed and finally all the elves were ready to wrap it up and call it a night. The cold air blew in as they opened the door and went “Dashing through the Snow” into the “Silent Night”.

They passed by the large, beautifully decorated evergreen tree, and stopped to admire it. Candy Cane started singing “O Tannebaum” with the others joining in.

Jinx suggested that they  roast “chestnuts on an open fire”, but the others decided that may be better for another night when they were more awake!

So off to their beds they went with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads. Except for Alabaster, he was one of Santa’s newest elves. He dreamed of a hula hoop, and perhaps a hippo entered his dream world as well for “All he wanted for Christmas was a Hippopotamus”

Tuesday’s Thoughts!

A gray, dreary day outside, but my Christmas tree lights are on, so the light is shining in here.  I hope the light shines for you today, no matter how dreary it is outside, or perhaps inside you. I hope you can dig down and find joy in the moment and just breathe. May these quotes bring some smiles as well.

When SWEET is Not so SWEET!

Festive Homemade Candy Canes Ready for Christmas

It started out as a nice evening. There was a chill in the air, but it wasn’t too cold to be out. We were watching a Christmas parade in a town not too far away from us. They were playing Christmas music before the parade started and I had to laugh as “The Christmas song” by the Chipmunks was the first song played, thinking back on my Monday’s post.

At the end of the parade Candy canes were handed out and one was handed to me. They aren’t my favorite candy but this was handed to me, so I had to eat it, right? I had been asked if I wanted one at the beginning of the parade and I had passed, but this one was placed right in my hand.

After the parade we watched a short but cool pyrotechnic light and music show. It had been put together by a 17 year old and we were impressed. During the show I enjoyed my sweet candy cane. Afterwards my husband and I decided to take a leisurely stroll through downtown and visit some of the unique shops they had.

My legs started getting itchy and in not much time at all the itch was becoming intense. Have you ever tried walking and scratching your legs at the same time? Not that easy to do. By the time we found a place to sit down, I realized that I was into a full blown gluten allergy reaction as I scratched my legs like crazy! But I was totally perplexed! We had eaten supper at home and all I since then was a simple, sweet, candy cane.

My husband googled and we were both surprised to read that not all Candy Canes are gluten free! How can they not be gluten free! I thought they were just made up of sugar and flavoring and more sugar, but nope wheat flour is an ingredient among the butter and eggs. There was our answer, though still perplexing, for you think about how little a candy cane is and I am sure the amount of flour couldn’t be that much!

I was diagnosed with Celiac over 9 years ago, the Doctor had noticed that my liver enzymes were very high and didn’t know why, and through more testing celiac was diagnosed.

I have eaten candy canes since being diagnosed, but do not remember ever having a reaction to them. But there was no doubt this was a allergic reaction as there was a rash on my legs, amidst the bruises, which has happened before when I had gluten. The bruises are from me breaking blood vessels because of scratching so hard.

I am fine now, besides my legs looking like they got in an accident. I did start itching everywhere but the rash stayed on the legs. Why did I react this time and not before, who knows. My body may have just did a better job of getting rid of the gluten before and this time threw a fit about it. This is why I do my best to steer clear of anything that I know has gluten, for I never know how my body may react, and its not worth the momentary pleasure of eating something good, knowing I may pay for it later. Whether through an upset stomach, migraine headache or a rash. Perhaps the “sweet” candy cane had bothered me before, but I blamed it on something else, never thinking that a little,  “sweet”, candy cane could be to blame.

It is estimated that 32 million people suffer from food allergies, do you fall in that number? What is your experience with food allergies? 3 million suffer from celiac disease.

Studies show that celiac is far more common now than it was 50 years ago. Is that due to it just not being diagnosed before, or due to food being grown and processed differently now? Are we making food worse for us and that’s why food allergies keep growing? What do you think?

I don’t know the answer, but I do believe that I will be giving up candy canes, for to me they are not so sweet!

Friday’s Super Short Stories!

When your great-niece is too snug in her little “submarine” and hasn’t got the message yet about it being time to evacuate!

When the cake is sweet … but the love wrapped into it is even sweeter!

Another year older …  and the heart made even more SWEETER, by the gifts (that can’t be tied with a bow)  of love from family and friends !

If Only….

Once upon a time there was a wonderful place far, far away, called Moonbeam Farm.  At Moonbeam Farm there lived an older gentleman with a big heart and a crazy sense of humor. He lived on Moonbeam Farm with his 3 crazy best friends.

His crazy friends consisted of a sassy Barn Owl, Odessa.  A sweet, but tricky Jackalope, Jaxon,  and a curious cat, Dewey,  whose favorite activities were sleeping and eating!

These characters not only look very  different from each other, but their likes, dislikes and abilities are very different. Jaxon would never eat a mouse and Dewey the cat would starve if all he had to eat were veggies and grass. Odessa shakes her head in despair many times over the way the man-servant uses the English language, but it doesn’t stop her from being his friend.

Their differences may be many, but forever best friends they will always be. For they all have big hearts! Hearts that have compassion and love, which enables them to  see past their differences. They celebrate what they have in common, their love of adventuring, their sense of humor and their loyalty to each other.

If only real life could be more  like life at Moonbeam Farm. If only we humans could celebrate our differences instead of letting fear hold us back from opening our hearts to another. If only we could learn from each other, instead of putting the other person down for things we don’t understand. If only  we could let hearts of compassion and love rule, instead of being ruled by what our eyes see.

If only fiction could become a little more real!

If you  would like to take a trip to Moonbeam Farm where love and laughter reign, feel free to click on the book cover in the right hand margin. Perhaps you know of someone on your Christmas list who could enjoy some refreshment to their soul, young and old alike. No fighting for a parking space or waiting in long shopping lines, just one click online and your work is done. Let the Man-servant, Odessa, Dewey and Jaxon spread some joy to your heart and the hearts of others this Christmas season.
