Mary Poppins is one of my all time favorite musicals, for I have such fond memories of it as a child and who can beat Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke!!
This song came to my mind due to a subject that came up with a friend on Facebook the other day. She was talking about making cinnamon toast for her children and how she makes it with white sugar! I was aghast! Who makes cinnamon toast with white sugar I thought??? So I took a highly scientific FB poll, only to be more and more shocked. Apparently I was the odd one! They had never heard of using brown sugar. Comment after comment confirmed that you use white to make yummy cinnamon toast.
There was a lot of laughter and it just showed how sometimes what you think is really common isn’t so very common after all! I learned, but I am still sticking with my brown sugar on the rare occasion that I make a piece for myself anymore. How do you make your cinnamon toast, please share! Or what is something that you do with food that perhaps not many others do? Ketchup on eggs? Peanut butter in tomato soup? Feel free to share below!
I have enjoyed eating potato chips (and potato sticks) with applesauce. It tastes almost like apple pie. I get side eyes until the unbeliever takes a try. Then, I see that I have competition for the applesauce that is still available!

Sugar is poison. But I must admit that I indulge in it. I try to keep it to a minimum, but sometimes it’s very hard. Sigh . . . I guess I’m an addict.

Oooh yes…..a type of “poison” that you do indulge in! 😄
White or brown sugar, or have you never made cinnamon toast?

I’ve made cinnamon French toast. And for that I’ve used powdered sugar. Which is white.

Well now yes powdered sugar on French toast is different. 🙂 But yes it is white.

That’s not that far off from white sugar.
You should try it with dark brown sugar and report back!

I remember using white sugar and cinnamon when I was a kid. I haven’t made cinnamon toast in many years, but I do eat toast with apple butter, which has cinnamon and sugar, so it’s probably not as much healthier as I’d like to think it is…

OH Apple butter is good! I had that as a child too and still eat it. Yes, you are right it is a healthier choice. 🙂 Have you ever eaten it on cottage cheese? I eat it that way the most.

No, I don’t eat cottage cheese because my mom often put it on her salads when I was growing up, and I thought it looked icky. I know it’s the same as ricotta cheese on lasagna, which I like. But sometimes when you get ideas in your head as a child, they just get stuck 🙂

You are most welcome and would love to hear what you think! You are welcome to not like it! 🙂 I tried the white sugar when I heard that it was so popular! It was good, but to me not as tasty! 🙂

That’s funny. If I ever try it I will let you know. I don’t generally have sugar in the house any more or I WILL EAT IT! 😉 but if am in a situation to try it. I will.

I have cut back on my sugar, but I couldn’t go totally without! Don’t have that will power!

Brown sugar is just white sugar with some added molasses. Truthfully, I’ve never heard of making cinnamon toast with brown sugar either. 😇
