We woke up to snow falling this morning and creating beauty once again. The temps are barely above freezing, but just enough for it to not be laying on the roads which is nice. since I soon have to drive on them.
Watching the snow fall always seems to add a touch of magic to the air. My mind was going back in time as I watched out my window. What “magical” moments do you remember from your childhood? Big moments, small moments, anything that brings a smile to your face and some magic to your heart when you think about it. One of those memories that you enjoy revisiting from time to time.
Here are some memories that popped into my head as I watched the falling snow.
1. Playing in the creek with my friends, splashing in the water and floating down the creek in an inner tube. (Yes, it is snowing outside and my mind is thinking about summertime! :))
2. Walking into the kitchen and seeing my Mom cooking chocolate pudding on the stove. Ahh! Dessert was going to be good tonight for supper!
3. Being in my best friend’s bedroom and us listening to the Top 20 Country Music songs Countdown on the weekends as we tried to figure out the meaning of life at the ripe old age of 10!
4. Telling my Boston Terrier all about the problems with guys and her listening with great attention and totally agreeing with all I said as she cuddled against me.
What magical moments would you like to share? Grab a cup of hot chocolate and take a little trip down memory lane. Feel free to take us along if you want, by sharing in the comments below and pass the marshmallows please, I need some more for my Hot Cocoa.
On snowy morning, I remember hovering over the clock radio waiting to hear if our school system was closed. Back then, it seemed there were more groans from me and my sister than cheers. It seems they close schools more often these days.

Funny that you say that, for I almost had written that down in my post. 🙂 Oh yes, I remember listening in anticipation and then like you said, groaning! And I would groan too if we would just miss hearing our school and would have to wait for the long alphabetical list to start over again! They definitely close school more today than they used to. They close schools here just by the forecast sometimes before we even see a snowflake!

Oh yes…that long alphabetical list! LOL!

Sitting in a playground during a school break (about 9 years old), and watching a bumble bee land on my knee (I wore short pants for school). Watched it with fascination as it settled down seemingly quite happy … and was delighted when it flew off, because it had left me a “present” ….. pollen! 🙂

🙂 The bee was saying HI and thanking you for not screaming and scaring it away!

A fresh new falling snow is almost magical. And then you remember ‘oh shoot, I gotta go shovel the walks.’ LOL ❄️Enjoy but stay safe.

Ha Ha! Will do! They are calling for ice tonight, which I hope we don’t get!

On this somewhat snowy day, I recall the snow days of my childhood when we would play in the snow long enough for cold noses and toes. We would come inside and eat snow ice cream while we soaked our feet in the bathroom sink. (yes, we had a large vanity to sit on and a large sink to soak our tootsies!)

Oh, and I cannot help but recall a snow day my best friend and I wasted trying to trick our friends. 😉 Oh we were young, and careless!

Sledding down the hill and into the street without worries, because the only other idiots outside in the cold were the folks on the snowmobiles. ✨✴✨

Yes, that was the best part of a snow day! Once I took a snow shovel out to the pond at my grandparents’ house and was happily making paths through the snow on top of the ice, pretending that it was an enchanted maze leading to a magical snow castle. Then a big kid came along and spoiled the fun by telling me to quit making the ice lumpy for the skaters. Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted.

Ahhh! Love it! I can just see you being creative like that! 🙂

lol We skated on a swap, with cattails and odd bits of things sticking through the ice. Clear ice was a lucky find. But I like the idea of an enchanted maze. ✨😊✨

i am missing the snow and your posts makes me long to return when it snows like that in a place i will get to touch more snow, it was too little the last time visited. i have too many memories and revisit them often too like you. i loved reading yours so much especially listening to the top 20 songs with best friend. i talk to my best friend in Canada everyday, so we have lots of memories to share with each other. My favourite is my dad telling us bed time stories, a new one every Sunday and then repeats during the week. Lovely post Carolyn, your word always have such a calming effect on me. Have a wonderful rest of the week my sweet friend.

I quite agree, your wonderful memories brought my own tumbling forward…especially the one about playing in the creek…something my sister and I spent a lot of time doing in the summer.😁

Nothing compares to playing in a creek, does it. It was my friend’s creek and they had a huge willow tree by it that we would swing from as well. Such carefree days. 🙂

Teasing my sister, who was playing a guitar, for her lousy musical talent, and then being chased by her and scratched down my back. And then there was the magical Christmas when I gave her itching powder as a gift, then a few days later discovered it in my underwear. Ah yes, such magical moments. Childhood was such a dream.

Hahaha! Why does this not surprise me! 🙂 Sounds to me like you got what you deserved from your sister!

She was older and bigger than me, and picked on me a lot. I took a big risk whenever I teased her, but for some reason I just couldn’t help myself.

Snow days playing outside all day with friends and my mom bringing us back inside for delicious heartwarming mugs of homemade cocoa full to the brim.
Pulling out old photos of people from generations past and snuggling up in my cozy rainbow blanket that my mom made for me as listened to stories past down from generation to generation.
