How are you feeling this Monday morning? It was slow going for me in waking up this morning, but I am getting there now. I woke up thinking of childhood memories. I still had on my mind the story about the little boy that I shared in my post yesterday. The one who remembers baking cookies with his mom and sister. He remembers his sister putting her name on the cookies. Precious memories to him. Memories that have stuck in his mind, memories of times when life was good for him and his family.
What are some good memories that you recall from your childhood? Memories that have stuck with you through the years. Ones where you can close your eyes and be taken back into time. It doesn’t have to be anything big, just something that brings a smile to your heart when you think of it.
As for me, I remember the times of listening to my favorite records on our record player. I would listen to the stories of Pooh Bear and friends over and over again. I also loved Aunt Teresa’s stories. No, I didn’t have an Aunt Teresa, it was another record that I had of children’s stories.
I remember playing animal hospital with my sister and our stuffed animals. We would hide them throughout the house and then have to go rescue them and take them to our bedroom which was known as the “hospital” to wrap them up with ace bandages and whatever else was needed.
I remember playing for hours with my dollhouse. A family of 5 and they had a black and white dog that I named Spot. Their best friends lived in the tree house next door. That tree house was so cool for it had a elevator in it! I loved turning the little knob for it to go up and down. How it didn’t break after being turned so often I don’t know. I do believe they built toys to last back then, unlike now!
There was the time when there was a very bad thunderstorm and my parents weren’t home. It was just me and my 2 older sisters. We all went into my oldest sister’s room, for she was brave. I think that I remember the lights had gone out because of the storm and that made it more scary, but we sat on my sister’s bed and we sang songs. Hard to still be afraid when you are singing songs. The power of music.
Life is so full of memories. Good ones and bad ones too, they are make up this amazing thing called life!
It’s a dreary, cloudy, cool day here. Calling for rain, but for now its just gloomy. A day that is good for curling up in a blanket, getting a cup of tea or your favorite latte and taking a trip back in time. Where does your mind go? Take some moments of your day to smile as you remember, and if you would like, feel free to share below about your little trip back in time.
Ahh! Thanks to Pinterest, and “Toys of the 70’s”, I can take you back in time with pictures of my dollhouses.
Do you see the elevator? 🙂 And yes, they had a dog named Spot as well.
No batteries required – just imagination!
My son and daughter played with those ‘dollhouses.’ We all loved the Fischer Price peeps and spent many an hour creating all sorts of stories. Especially with the farm edition.

Oh cool that you have memories of them too. They were great, weren’t they! Oh yes I do remember the farm edition , my friend had that and I enjoyed playing with that too!

And the parking garage. We played with that one for hours! A great way to spend a snowy afternoon. With the temps in the upper 90s here, oh what I would give for one of those right now!

That’s one I don’t remember playing with but I am sure it would be fun. Wow! 90’s. You went into summer full force! So far June has been.cooler here than May! It’s in the 60’s today. Hope it cools down a little for you!

It was 49 one day and then zoomed up to the upper 80’s the next. Been climbing ever since. For the locals, it’s called ‘springtime in the Rockies.’ LOL Maybe in September we’ll get back to those cooler days. July & August are typically the hottest. The joys of living at a Mile High altitude. 🏔

When you’re a mile closer to the sun, it also means sunburn and scorch with that beauty. 😆

And truthfully, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. Ok, maybe back in Germany, but that’s not happening any time soon. 😍

Oh wow! I didn’t know you were born there. I had remembered reading posts about you being there but hadn’t caught that fact. How long were you there?

Just until I was 3; my dad was stationed in Frankfurt, my mom was a local German. Now we’re both US citizens but I’d almost give an arm and leg to go back and stay. Darn EU regulations! 😉

Awh! I hope you get to go back, at least to visit!
I have ancestors from Germany. Have a Swiss-German background ,but I have never been there. I made it to Switzerland though and would love to go back!

I go back on occasion on holiday but would absolutely love to live there full time. The problem is my whole family is here and I’d miss them something fierce. We are all very close.

Would they love to go back to Germany too or are you the only one witb the desire to stay there? 🙂

Mom grew up during WWII and memories aren’t as nearly as romantic as mine. My brothers and sisters have no reference point and just accept me as the odd (wo)man out. 🙃

I can see your Mom’s point and LOL at being the odd one out. 🙂 Hey there’s one in every family! 🙂

Oh the days of toys requiring no batteries and just a kid’s imagination. I remember Spirograph to make such wondrous patterns and designs. Together Dad and I did the owl, though I never got to colour or frame it.

Yes, back in simpler times before electronics took over! We enjoyed Spirograph as well! I think my sister played with it more but I did like to doodle with it. 🙂

For Christmas one year my dad made me a huge wood dollhouse and he made my brother a matching mechanics garage. They were both white with a red roof and doors. My mother helped me make and ‘install’ curtains, and scatter rugs. I played with that thing forever. I also loved paper dolls. I would use gift wrap to trace the clothes that came with the doll, cut them out and my paper doll had the best wardrobe ever.
Board games were a staple. Spent hours making ink blot designs. You know, when people used pens that you had to fill with ink. No ballpoint pens then. 😳 And I just loved my View Master. I would sit forever clicking those little round cardboard discs that held the films. I was transported to exotic places that I had never heard of, and I had every fairytale one they made!!
Thanks for my walk down memory lane. Definitely made me smile.

growing up in Asia we did not have a lot of modern toys and it was usually too costly for my parents to buy when it was popular. we got a lot of hand me down toys from our cousins and visiting family from overseas or when we traveled to meet them. my most favourite childhood memory is playing in the dusty cemetery with my siblings and friends, climbing the trees and making frangipani garlands. We were so carefree and invented our own stories of adventure.

Aww! Thanks for sharing Gina. The best fun I believe in childhood was using our imaginations! As you said, being carefree! Now you have me curious though. What is a frangipani? 🙂

sorry for the late reply Carolyn. The frangipani or otherwise known as the plumeria is a huge flowering tree usually found in graveyards around Asia as it’s shady and gives off a very sweet aroma. We would pick the fallen flowers and make garlands and crowns, they flowers are velvety and lush. I have seen them in Hawaii.
In Malaysia there’s a lot of folklore surrounding these trees connected to ghosts and spirits and we kids would make up our own stories too. Yes imagination was the best part of my childhood too!
