Love it or Hate it?

Eggnog….Love it or Hate it?  No this post isn’t only about Egg Nog, it is just what is on my mind, for my hubby walked in the door a short while ago with it in his hand.  It isn’t Christmas without Eggnog.  Okay, so maybe that is exaggerating a little. But I have liked it since I have been little.  It has been a tradition for many years.

Any food or drink that is on your Christmas menu every year, or was on your menu when you were a child?    Sweet Potato Pudding is another favorite of mine.  I also remember my Mom making Cathedral Windows, Pecan Sandies and Pecan Surprise Bars.  Now my taste buds are starting to tingle!   Oh yes I can’t forget my Dad’s Mincemeat pie!  Okay onto something else besides food!

I was reading a book at work today and learned a fun fact that I don’t remember knowing before.  I am wondering if I am the only person who never knew.  Hoping that I may enlighten someone out there with this fact.  I learned how Teddy Bears got their name!  Who doesn’t love a Teddy Bear?  They are the most popular stuffed animal.  They were named after our 26th President, Theodore, “Teddy”  Roosevelt!  I remember studying about the Presidents in school but I don’t remember them ever sharing that fact.  Please feel free to speak up if you also somehow missed this little fact!

If you already did know that fact, here are a few other ones that perhaps you don’t know.  Yes, we all need some extra information to store in our brains.  You are welcome. 🙂

Only Female mosquitoes bite.  Hmmm….  Not going to comment on that one!

Dr.Seuss was challenged by a friend to write a book using no more than 50 different words.  He did!  The result….Green Eggs and Ham! 🙂

The duffel bag gets its name from Duffel, Belgium!

In 1934 Hawaiian Punch was originally developed as a tropical flavored ice cream topping!

  7. I knew most of your fun facts, but not the duffel bag one. The Dr. Seuss one is my favorite because Green Eggs and Ham is such a great book ~ and because I starred in a musical version of it about 20 years ago. I was the Grouch. 😀

    I used to love eggnog and miniature fruitcakes for Christmas until I had strep throat one year which changed the taste and I’ve never been able to enjoy either again.

  8. JR I do enjoy egg nog and I actually like the real stuff with a little more rum taste. But that’s weird for me to like these both as I’m in general, not a huge rum drinker for highballs or fruity drinks or coolers or any other drink etc. I also find the dairy in the egg nog upsets my stomach. so a glass or two is all I need. But who knows, maybe that’s the rum?

    Interesting facts, Superman was a superhero originally created in Canada.
    We have a great beer in Alberta Canada, called AlleyKat. It’s one of the original craft beers and comes in my favorite Aprikot flavour and is so good any time of year. Other good flavours include brew berry (blueberry) and Pumpkin in October. Each year they come out with an entirely new flavour, the Aprikot is standard and the best. Even if you’rs not a beer drinker even, you’d enjoy this.

    Canada 🇨🇦 is bilingual as many people know but back when they voted in the second official language for Canada, German like lost to French by only a few percent!

  10. We had movie night on Monday and we had homemade eggnog as a treat. Homemade is so much better. I had it as a little girl too and it was homemade then too. I can’t think of any fun facts you haven’t listed. I think I knew all of yours. HaPpY Holidays and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁

  11. oh so loved this beautiful post. you sound so full of love and joy! ,it reaches all the way to the equator. we dont drink eggnog here more of ice cold beer and chilled wine. one traditional food I must cook is prawn curry. its an oddity and my own recipe. once a year it makes an appearance and my kids say this is Christmas Day for them. continue to write beautifully💞

      Prawn curry? You have me curious now for I make chicken.curry which is a family favorite. What is prawn curry exactly? 🙂

      • talking about food just brings people closer. its similar to chicken curry but I use coriander and other spices different from meat curries. yes we have flavoured beer and apple as well as pineapple cider! I did read Mandi’s comment. so cool to learn about other cultures and traditions. your post is just so wonderful getting everyone contributing their thoughts.

  12. Wow Joy, I am learning a lot today. I love teddy bears (i used to give mine names), I never knew where they got their names from.
    I do love sweet potato porridge, haven’t t tried the pudding yet. Will have to google the difference in their recipes.

    • Yay! Glad there was someone else that didn’t know where the name of Teddy bears came from
      Hmmm…now I am curious as well to know if the porridge is similar to the pudding.
      The best thing about the pudding is the cooked marshmallows on top. It is a hot dish, not cold like puddings typically are.
