The Flying Pigs

As promised in my earlier post, here is Part 2 to my Jinx and Jangle story. You can find out what was in the mysterious box. If you didn’t read Part 1, here is the link. The Mysterious Package

The Flying Pigs

Jinx and Jangle were staring at the objects that were pulled out of the bottom of the box. At first they had been delighted, for the first things they laid eyes on were some stuffed reindeer. There was a big message on top of them from Santa. He said how he guessed that they may be missing the reindeer and wondering if they would consider coming back in the Fall? They hooped and hollered and danced a little jig.

After their excitement died down a little, they proceeded to look in the rest of the box. This is when they started to get a perplexed look on their faces. There were stuffed pigs in the bottom of the box! Why on earth would Santa send them some stuffed pigs with wings? What did that mean? There was nothing said about them in the note.

“Do you have any clue Jinx as to what flying pigs could mean?” Jangle asked this as he paced the floor. “No, I really don’t, usually I have a good sense of what Santa is up to, but right now I feel totally clueless! Hey Jangle what time is it?” Jangle looked at his watch, “4pm, why did you ask, the clock is right in front of you.” Jinx rolled his eyes and said, ” Yes, the clock is in front of me but do you see what it says. I knew it had to be wrong. It says 12:00! Dumb clock stopped again! I think that clock is stopped more often then it runs!”  Jangle muttered to himself, ” sounds like an analogy to someone’s brain, that I know.” “What did you say Jangle?”, “Oh nothing important” he said, as he smiled.

They were hungry, so they made some supper. Hadn’t gone grocery shopping in awhile, so the  cupboards were pretty bare. Jinx ended up making some fluffer nutter sandwiches. “Oh this really is my favorite sandwich!” Jangle gave Jinx a strange look, “You really need to get better taste.” He said this as he ate a cup cheese sandwich.  “Now this is what is really good!”

Later that evening Jangle was relaxing in front of the television. Jinx was at the computer reading the Newspaper online.  ” Hey Jangle, listen to this! Someone wrote about flying pigs in an ad in the Lost and Found section.”  “Oh really, are they saying that they are missing some?” ” Not sure, said how they went flying by the window of a  guy who failed at catching them and now he is eating a big serving of humble pie.” Jangle gave Jinx a strange look.  ” I think maybe we should call it a night, this has been a confusing day.”  Jinx agreed, as he gave one more look at the flying pigs before turning off the light.

“Let’s go to the waterfall again tomorrow Jinx. If we are headed back to the North Pole in the Fall, I want to enjoy the beach and waterfalls as much as we can. Enjoy the weather before heading back to the freezing cold. ”  Jinx nodded, ” Sounds like a great plan to me! A plan that is bound to be perfect!” With those happy thoughts they slept soundly through the night.

Tuesday’s Thoughts!

06a5f423fee725bfcd07341cd459a679Good Morning! Had to start out the day with this adorable picture that I found as I was looking for quotes. A Boston Terrier was my first dog and so they will always hold a special place in my heart! <3! Someday I will have another one!

What’s on your  mind today? It’s a new day, full of new chances. The clock counts down the hours and minutes, what will you do with your time? I hopefully will have some more winning moments today. Some people who will remain unnamed, were a little too on top of their wit yesterday! But hey it can’t last. It could suddenly get stuck, like a stopped clock.

Have a great day everyone! Whether you have big challenges to overcome or little ones, may these quotes give you a smile as you go about undertaking them!

The Gift of Memories

On Friday I shared about some memories and how they helped turn tears into laughter. I love that about memories. They can warm the heart, even when it is feeling sad. Can help you smile through the tears. Memories are a cherished gift.

In sharing some of the memories on Friday it took my mind back to years ago. Back when I was 20 and living in my first apartment with my dear friend Sherry! We really hadn’t known each other long before we rented the apartment together. It just made sense to us, for there are some people that you just click right away with and you know. That is how we were. I still remember our excitement after signing the lease. We were taking a step forward to independence and it felt so good!

That first night we had boxes all around our living room, but it was OK, for this was our place. Our little home. That living room/family room, whatever you want to call it, became the center of everything. Many Monopoly games were played in that room and the board may have been tossed a time or 2 as money went flying. It was the center of ice/water/shaving cream battles. Where we watched movies and got caught up in some regular daytime shows. Yes, ladies, you probably know what I mean. It was just 1 that we watched regularly.

The kitchen was a place of sharing good food and laughter with each other and friends. We will not go into the culinary skills that we had. Also won’t mention that Sherry was sly as she liked to hide all the cookies, etc. in the high cupboards.

Then there was the time she just happened to be locked out of the house. What was she to do, for she left her key in the house. As I was smiling big thinking of what I could bargain with her for in order for me to let her in, she had other ideas.  The next thing I knew she was climbing in the window! Yes, that was something I had overlooked. Should have locked them.

Oh if the walls could speak, so many late night conversations, solving the mysteries of life or just seeing how goofy your mind really does get at 3am!

Friendship is a wonderful treasure! So thankful for the strong, long friendship that we have shared and continue to share.

Thankful for all the friendships that have impacted my life. The memories made and the ones to still be made.

Friendship is love and couldn’t make it through life’s up, down, curvy road without it!

A Symbol of Hope

This may be my favorite Easter picture!  18 years ago my dear daughter was born exactly a week before Easter. This is my handsome husband, a proud new Daddy, holding our 1 week old daughter on Easter Sunday.

New life did spring forth. Hope was born.

Easter is a symbol of hope. The darkness can be overcome! Light is more powerful and will shine forth!

The Mysterious Package

It is a lovely Spring Day! The sunshine puts a smile on my face. When I thought of sunshine, I thought of the beach, and the beach made me think of Hawaii-a place that  I hope to visit sometime. Thinking of Hawaii made me think of Jinx and Jangle, for if you recall they were enjoying the sunshine of Hawaii in our last story. Having them on my mind gave me an idea for today’s post. See how my mind works.  🙂 So sit back and enjoy another tale. Hopefully Jinx won’t come close to falling in a waterfall again, but you never know with these 2!!

If you have recently started following my blog, here are some links to the Jinx and Jangle stories. The Story of Jinx and Jangle, A Touch of Magic!, and The Unexpected Twist

The Mysterious Package

A warm breeze was blowing, it was a beautiful Spring Day. The sunshine was smiling in the clear blue sky.  Unfortunately Jinx wasn’t feeling the best. His thumb was throbbing. He decided that he would never pick up a hammer again. He was trying to fix a floorboard in their house. Didn’t look like it would be that difficult, just a couple whacks with the hammer was all that was needed. Unfortunately his thumb got one hard whack and it was a nice , shiny purple color right now.

Jangle wasn’t feeling the best either. He was beginning to feel restless. Missing the North Pole.

Jangle went into town to try to get some things to help make Jinx feel better.  He was debating what to get, when he spied it. That would be perfect for him. Jangle couldn’t help but laugh to himself as he paid for it and put it in his bag.

Jangle entered the door, calling out. “I am home, how are you feeling?” He walked into the living room where he had left Jinx on the couch. Jinx was smiling, ” I am feeling better now. It is not throbbing as much , the ice pack helped. ” Jinx reached down in his bag to  pull out something. ” I found a little something to try to bring a smile to your face.” Jinx smiled bigger, ” That was very thoughtful of you.” Jangle tried to hold back his laughter as he handed Jinx a large rubber hammer. ” I figured that would come in handy if you wanted to help me repair the roof soon.” Jinx looked at Jangle not saying a word, just twisting his head a little as he pierced him one of his perfected deep stares. Jangle walked away laughing.

Jangle came out a bit later with some tea for Jinx.  “So what are we going to do Jinx. how long are we going to stay in Hawaii?” Jinx was thinking as he drank his tea. ” I am not sure. Our assignment here is supposed to last only until the Fall, then I guess it is up to where Santa Clause is going to send us.” Jangle set his  cup of tea down and asked, ” Do you ever miss the North Pole?” “Yes, I do, I miss the reindeer, and the fun we had driving the sleds!” They both sat in silence for awhile lost in thought.

“Ding Dong!” “Were you expecting anyone Jinx?” “No, were you?” Jangle shook his head as he went to open the door. Their mailman was there smiling, he always was a cheery guy. ” I have a special delivery today  for you guys!”

Jinx and Jangle couldn’t believe their eyes as they watched the mailman set down a very large, oddly shaped box in the middle of their living room.  What could that be, they thought! Joey the mailman said how he would love to stay and watch them open it, but he had to keep moving. They thanked him as he left, and promised that they would show him whatever the package was when he came back.

Jinx and jangle stared at the box. Was this a clue as to what their next assignment would be? They saw that the package was from the North Pole.  “Well open it Jangle!” Jangle started the process of opening it, it had been sealed up very well! They couldn’t believe their eyes as what was inside the box started to be revealed. If their guess was right, this was a very good clue as to where they would be headed come Fall.

Their spirits had been lifted and they were both feeling happy.  It wasn’t just the sun that was smiling anymore. In fact they thought they may go visit a waterfall again, but yes they would be more careful this time. Jinx had already hurt his thumb, didn’t need anymore mishaps. They were feeling confident as they headed out the door to flag down a taxi.

Confidence is a good thing to have. Then again with these 2, that confident feeling can be misleading. You just never know!

Friday’s 7 word stories

Relentless pursuit = an amazing, beautiful. priceless prize!

Humor amidst sorrow; enjoying roses amidst thorns.

Remembering the tractor, turned tears into laughter!

Sometimes “very soon” isn’t soon at all!

Happy Friday everyone! I don’t usually share the stories behind my “stories”, but wanted to at least share about the 1st one today. Yesterday as I shared in my post, my husband and I went to a funeral of a dear friend. Yes, there were lots of tears, but as these “stories” show there was humor as well. Pat had a crazy, wonderful sense of humor, it was impossible to honor his life without remembering the humor.

One of the memories shared was about how Pat relentlessly pursued his wife-to-be. I was there during the pursuit. See, she was my friend first, and we talked into the night many times about this crazy guy who just wouldn’t take no for an answer. He weaved his charm, and as my “story” says, received the best prize of all!

Come Away With Me My Friend

Good Morning! Today my husband and I will bid a final farewell to a dear friend of ours. His body was ravaged with cancer and now he is free from pain. Though we are happy that he is now at peace, there also is pain, as he will be dearly missed!

Pat always had a smile for you and  could make you laugh with his wit. Even when his wit was at your expense, you couldn’t help but laugh. Shaking your head, trying not to smile, as your mind was racing for a comeback.  No joke was ever old. We had met over 20 years ago, and there was something that had happened to me in that first year that Pat and Sherry were dating. Something that he still loved to throw out there whenever he would get the chance, and yes it still had a way of heating up my cheeks. His humor is something that stayed with him, even as his body grew sicker. He kept his spirits up and fought hard. He was an inspiration.

In yesterday’s post, Dewey and Jaxon Follow Their Hearts, I told about when we heard the news about the cancer and how Dewey took over my pen. Took over my pen for my broken heart.  Today I am sharing a poem that I shared before. A poem that seems fitting for today. It has been revised a little to help it flow more smoothly, thanks to a friend.

My heart poured it out on a night when it was breaking. Breaking because the prognosis was not looking good for my friend and the tears fell as I didn’t know what to say. What could I speak  to my precious friend;  his wife. How could I encourage her? I felt that I had no words.

Come Away With Me My Friend (Let Us Run To The Ocean)

Come away with me my friend

Let us run to the ocean,

Where you can let the pain in your heart

Be overpowered by the roar of the waves.

Let us go where you can shout ”Why?” to the sky,

And scream as loud as you need.

Where you can fall to your knees on the soft sand.

Let us run to the ocean,

Where I can hold you tight, and let you cry.

Where you can let your shoulders sag.

Where you can let your tears fall,

To be carried away by the waves.

Lean on me. Let me be your strength.

Let us run to the ocean.

Oh, my dear friend… let us just go!

You need not think about the future.

Let us walk along the water’s edge.

Remember when we were young?

Our lives were so carefree

Let us stand in the water.

Let the waves splash your face,

And gently wash away your tears.

Let us run to the ocean.

Let us go where the waves go on forever.

Life can be hard my very special friend.

But let us run to the ocean.

Life we cannot always understand.

Things happen that cannot be explained.

But the waves will go on forever

Through night and day; Through rain or shine,

As will my love for you.

Let us go to the ocean my dear friend.

We will face the rolling waves together,

And if you slip… I will be there to catch you.

If you feel you are losing your way…

I will be there to guide you.

Let us talk in silence,

For our love does not need words.

We have a special friendship.

Let us run to the ocean.

Let the waves mesmerize you.

Let the ocean’s rhythm soothe your soul.

Let us go to the ocean, my friend.

Go where no words are needed.

Where we will let the waves speak.

Let us go the ocean my friend.

Let us go… and be as one,

For I will never let you fight this on your own.

Come away with me my friend.

Dewey and Jaxon Follow Their Hearts

Yes, I am re-posting a Dewey Story that I posted back in November. If you just started following my blog since November, then this will be a new post for you. To my older readers, I apologize, but I do have a reason. Don’t skip over this story, for there is something added to the end that you will want to read.

As with most Dewey stories,  there is a story behind this story. Unlike most Dewey stories, this one was sad. My dear friend for over 20 years had recently found out that her husband had cancer. They were close friends of ours and the news was devastating. At times like these you aren’t always sure of what to say. My heart was full and Dewey took over the pen as  Dewey and Jaxon worked some magic. Magic, that ended up taking  on a life of its own.

Dewey and Jaxon Follow Their Hearts

Jaxon and Dewey were in the backyard laying in a pile of leaves. They had been jumping, but were taking a break now and Dewey was feeling a stirring in his heart. He turned to Jaxon and told him that he thinks Jaxon  is rubbing off on him. “Why?” asked Jaxon.  “Well.. I have a funny feeling in my heart.. like I need to be somewhere, but I don’t know where. ”

Jaxon closed his eyes and tried to concentrate. All was quiet for a few moments, so still you could have heard a leaf fall to the ground. Suddenly Jaxon opened his eyes and said, “Dewey follow me, there is someone that needs us!” With that he started walking away at a rapid pace. Dewey quickly got up on all 4 paws and took off after Jaxon, calling after him to remind him to slow down! Dewey couldn’t go as fast, he had short legs!

It felt like they had been walking forever. Dewey’s stomach was reminding him that breakfast had been awhile ago! At last he heard Jaxon say the magic words. “Here we are!” Dewey looked, they had stopped right in front of a  house. One they hadn’t been to before. “So what are we supposed to do now?”, asked Dewey. Jaxon shrugged and reminded Dewey that he was the one that had the stirring in his heart to begin with. All Jaxon did was lead them to the  correct place. Jaxon sensed that they were needed, but he didn’t know why.

Dewey felt the stirring stronger now and knew he had to get inside the house somehow. “How exactly?” was the million dollar question. He did not see any cat doors to go through and its not like he could just ring the door bell. Or wait, maybe he could? Well technically he couldn’t, for he was too short to reach the doorbell, but Jaxon could jump up and ring it. Jaxon quickly agreed and it took him 3 jumps but he made it and he pushed long and hard on the doorbell.

They heard footsteps coming. OH NO! What did they do? They were just about ready to turn around and run… this was crazy , they didn’t know these people! Too late the door opened and they ran in quickly before they lost their nerve.

“Hey, why did you let that cat in? You know how Mom doesn’t like cats.” Beth still had a shocked look on her face as she replied that all she did was open the door, because of the doorbell ringing. ” Oh, well who was there? asked her brother. This is where Beth took a deep breath and said, “Ummmm….that cat and some really strange animal that I don’t see now.”

Beth was going to say more , but her Mom entered the living room at that time. Her eyes were puffy and red  from all the tears she had cried the night before. She sat down on the couch not even noticing Dewey at first. Her mind was going in so many directions, she could barely focus. Dewey held his breath.  The couch was so comfy and he was used to being allowed on the man-servant’s couch that he had just made himself at home here. Now hearing how the woman didn’t like cats, he thought that maybe they had made a mistake coming here.

Then it happened;  he started feeling warm inside, as the woman gingerly took her hand and started stroking Dewey. It was very light at first and Dewey held really still. Dewey felt the stirring again and he knew he was exactly  where he needed to be. Gradually the light stroking became a little more harder. He could tell the woman was feeling comfortable with stroking him. Dewey started to purr and he laid his head down in the woman’s lap. With that the woman began to cry again and Dewey thought , “OH NO! What did I do!” , but he soon realized that it was OK. He felt like this was the reason he was supposed to be  here. The woman needed him and she hadn’t even known it. He could feel the tension leave her body as she stroked him with her tears falling on his fur.

Meanwhile Jaxon had tried to fit in with a pile of plush animals in the boy’s room. That was a mistake, for the boy grabbed him like a stuffed toy and squeezed him so hard that Jaxon was sure all his insides were going to fall out! Like Dewey though Jaxon held still…he could sense that something special was at work. The boy’s tears landed on Jaxon and Jaxon’s heart started to melt. Why was everyone in this house so sad?

After Jaxon’s body had grown numb he felt the boy’s grip on him loosen and he could hear the boy taking deep breaths. The boy had fallen asleep. Jaxon slipped out from underneath his arm and stared at him for awhile. He felt bad for the boy and there was a part of him that hated to leave. He stroked the boy’s hair and put a peaceful sleep spell on him. Then he went out to check on Dewey.

“Wow!” Jaxon couldn’t believe it! He thought this lady didn’t like cats! Dewey was curled up on her lap and she had her hand resting on top of Dewey. Her eyes were closed as her head laid against the back of the couch. She was asleep as well.

Dewey saw Jaxon and he slowly got off the woman’s lap so as not to disturb  her. Jaxon’s eyes met Dewey’s and there was no need for words.  Fortunately the door never had been closed the whole way, so they were able to leave the house quietly.

Dewey was silent until they had walked further away from the house. ” Oh Jaxon! I am so glad that we came. I don’t know what was wrong, but they needed us, didn’t they?”

Jaxon totally agreed. He would have said more, but he couldn’t get past the lump in his throat. Humans were strange creatures. They could really confuse you, but at other times there was something so very sweet and vulnerable about them.  You felt like you needed to protect them. They could weave their way into your heart if you weren’t careful!

Once home Dewey and Jaxon felt exhausted, their bowls were full, but they really were not that hungry. Dewey’s heart was full and it must have spread to his stomach.

Dewey loved the adventures he had with his friends, a lot of them were crazy and fun! What with a  magical Jackalope, and a  crazy Owl, plus a Wackerdoodly man-servant, how could they not have fun? Wackerdoodly was a word straight from the man-servant’s mouth. Dewey wasn’t quite sure what it meant, but from the sound of it, he would say it was perfect for the man-servant.

Today’s adventure had been different, but Dewey wouldn’t trade it for anything. He had brought a smile to a wounded heart. The man-servant was always telling them how important it was to be there for others. To help share a smile with someone who needs it. Today Dewey understood.

After writing this story my husband and I visited  our friends.  I was struck with the idea to take “Dewey” as a gift.  I found a very unique stuffed cat. It had to be unique, right, for Dewey is a special cat.  It was an emotional visit but Dewey  brought laughter.  I remember riding home and getting a text from Sherry. She had taken a picture of Pat holding Dewey with a big smile on his face. She wrote in the text how Dewey had been catnapped from her, that Pat was claiming him as his own.

From then on out, Dewey was mentioned often. He would go in the hospital with Pat and the nurses would get  a kick out of him.

I couldn’t let Dewey be at the house alone. He missed his friends, so he  was later joined by an extremely plush Jaxon. His insides probably did feel like they were falling out when squeezing him for he was so squeezable. Of course you couldn’t forget  Odessa, she would have been  sure to have something to say about that. I do remember at least one occasion where Odessa flew through the air to dive bomb at their teenage son. He has a clever wit like his Dad. One time that we were visiting Odessa suddenly  flew out of my hands at him in response to one of his comments. You know how she has a mind of her own!

Last Monday night was the last visit we had with Pat. His body had declined rapidly and he wasn’t able to talk, but Dewey was beside him. I stroked Dewey as I laid him against Pat’s shoulder. Sherry had told us how a little boy came to visit with his Mom and he was asking if he could take Dewey home. Sherry said , “No, Dewey belongs to Mr. Pat.”

I had bought Dewey not the impact he would have. I thought it would bring a much needed smile for the night. I didn’t realize how the smiles would continue. Some things you just never know!

“Real isn’t how you are made”, said the Skin Horse. It’s a thing that happens to you. When someone loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with but really LOVES you, then you become REAL.” ( The Velveteen Rabbit)

Tuesday’s Thoughts!

Good Morning! Spring weather has arrived!! Actually it is almost more like summer now. Is supposed to reach 82 degrees  today! Supposed to be back in the 50’s on Thursday and Friday, but for now we are getting a glimpse of summer. May these quotes warm your soul!

A New Beginning!

A New Day has Dawned! I posted this on Facebook yesterday and some just thought i was literally talking about a new day dawning at the beach. Others knew those words held a much deeper meaning.

I have shared on here before about our upcoming court case. A lot of you have been so supportive in your thoughts and prayers for our family over this time, which I have deeply appreciated. Today I want to share that the trial is over. It took place  this past Thursday and Friday. It was 2 very stressful days and there was no way I could have made it without your thoughts and prayers.

Just to bring a smile to your face and to show the stress I felt…. I popped the stress ball! Yes, those little balls that are made to squeeze to relieve stress. Apparently I squeezed it too hard during my testimony and “Pop!” as sand went all over my lap.

It was stressful for all of us, for very sensitive, emotional issues were being talked about. As I told some friends, if I am never in a courtroom for a trial again, it will be too soon!!

A New Day Dawning meant the trial is behind us now and we can focus on moving forward. We agreed with the verdict and it is time now to let go. Let go of the dark days, of the cloud that has been hanging over our heads for about the past 2 years! Is there still pain? Yes, and it will take time, but it doesn’t mean we can’t move forward. We did our part, we saw it through and justice is being served.

After 5 hours of jury deliberation, late Friday night we took our tired, emotionally worn bodies home. We crashed into our beds. I awakened later with every muscle in my body hurting. My arms especially were just burning with pain. I knew what it was. I had unconsciously tightened the muscles in my body and held them so tensely in the 2 day trial. They were finally beginning to relax and let go.

Saturday morning we headed for the beach. My arms continued to burn as we drove towards the ocean. Finally we arrived, got settled in our motel and headed for the sand and the waves. The sight and sound of the waves instantly spoke to my heart. This was where no words were needed. I stood and looked out at the ocean that seems to continue forever as the waves spoke. I sat down in my beach chair and I could feel the pain ease from my arms and I started to doze to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

Come away with me my friend

Let us listen to the waves

We can now forget the cloudy past

Let us plan for brighter days

All those tears are behind us now

Come away with me my friend

Let’s splash our way along the beach

Together to the very end.

This was sent to me on Saturday from a dear friend.

Yes, I want to plan for brighter days and I couldn’t have thought of a better way to do it. Going to the ocean was the perfect beginning!
