Sunday’s edition of “You pick the topic”

Hope you all are having a relaxing, fun week-end! This past week in Thursday’s post “Out of your comfort zone” I shared an idea that a friend had given me for a post. It was something that I would have never picked to do a story on so it stretched me, but was fun to see that I could do it. I decided to have Thursday be a day for stories on suggestions that my friends give me. All suggestions will be accepted, yes I am being brave! 🙂 I asked for suggestions on Facebook and got a good response. I got such a good response that I decided to go ahead and do the first suggestion today. So here you go, ENJOY! And when you read the title, trust me your face will probably look the same as mine did!  When I first read what my friend posted, I thought no way! But hey I said anything, either a specific topic or words to do a story around. She took me literally for sure! Gotta love your friends! 🙂

Virtual Pokes – Compost – Classical Music

2 friends were chatting as they were strolling along the dirt road on a Sunday afternoon. They were coming back from a fun day of fishing at the creek. As they were approaching a bend in the road the one girl turned to her friend  and said, “Let’s walk a little faster!”, “What is your hurry?, said her friend. “I want to get past that spooky farmhouse as quickly as possible!” “Why! I always liked that farmhouse with the vibrant blue shutters and lovely wraparound porch.” Her friend paused and motioned her to sit down by the corner of the road. “Haven’t you ever heard the tale about that house?” Maria gave her friend a curious look and said, “No, what tale?” As her friend divulged the secret tale to her, Maria’s knees began to wobble, but at the same time she was very curious.

When Sally finished the tale, Maria took off running towards the farmhouse. She stopped and hesitated only for a minute before going to the backyard. Sally called out to her to stop. When she saw she wasn’t listening, she ran harder to catch up. “Wh, Wh, Why did you come here?” As they both stood outside the rickety latched gate the wind suddenly began to blow very hard. The harder it blew the more dread filled their bodies. They wanted to run but felt frozen to the spot. Their eyes grew huge as they saw and heard it at the same time! Running at full speed they took off for the direction of home! Maria’s zebra striped  flip flop flew off but she didn’t even stop to pick it up.

Later that night Maria was at her computer when she overheard her Dad talking to her Mom. “Hey Honey remember that abandoned old farmhouse with the wraparound porch that you love?” “Yes”, said her Mom. “Well it got put up for sale again, maybe we should take a look at it.”

Maria could not  believe her ears Her parents were actually thinking of moving to that farmhouse!  The one haunted by the ghost of Angela!  Angela’s ghost was believed to live under the compost pile in the backyard. It was told that when the wind blew hard, the shutters would rattle and her ghost would rise and sing a haunting melody. It was from a well known classical piece and she did have a beautiful voice. The voice made goosebumps arise from your skin. OH Maria had to stop thinking. She had to do something mindless, like poking friends on Facebook. Anything to get that ghastly image of Angela’s ghost rising from the compost pile out of her mind. POKE, POKE, POKE! She put headphones on to try to rid her mind of the haunting voice her and Sally had heard that afternoon. POKE, POKE, POKE, this wasn’t working! What was she to do??

Out of your comfort zone

A while back my friend and I were talking via Facebook and he was complimenting me on my writing. I said how I enjoyed writing like he does photography. It’s a passion! In our talking he challenged me to write about something different. Take a step out of my comfort zone.  I was like Ok, give me a topic and I will write about it. Didn’t realize how brave I was being. Well his topic was a snake, leeches and a dead body! This is why you shouldn’t ask men for topics to write about! LOL! As this Thursday dawns and my mind is blank I thought I would share it.  It also is appropriate as this marks a year since I started blogging. Hard to believe! I was taking the Writing 101 course when I was talking with my friend and that course led me on this incredible, fun journey of blogging. Thanks to all my faithful readers and new ones for enjoying this journey with me.

This story may be a little different from the first time I wrote it for I am writing it from memory, but I still think you will enjoy it. Maybe Thursdays will turn out to be my “Give me a Topic” day. It could be scary asking my friends for suggestions, BUT don’t know if anything can be scarier than snakes, leeches and dead bodies! I also should add that when he gave me the suggestion he had said about the leeches being on the snake, I had forgot that point 🙂

It was a beautiful Fall day. Cherie was getting ready to go on a hike and picnic with her dear husband. Taking some time out to enjoy the beautiful leaves this time of year and some time together. By mid-morning they were ready to head out. It was a relaxing walk, holding hands and hearing the leaves crunching beneath their feet. Watching them dance in the wind when it would blow and lift them up in all their colorful array. A photographer’s dream as they swirled about.

After awhile their stomachs started rumbling and Cherie suggested they stop for their picnic. Sam was more than happy to and he put down the picnic basket as he spread out the blanket. As Cherie opened the basket a high pitched shrill emanated from her and Sam was doubling over with laughter. How could he be laughing Cherie thought, as her heart raced and she cried, “SNAKE!” She quickly slammed the top of the picnic basket down. Sam in all his bravery came over to the basket and calmly opened it and picked up the black, beady eyed “snake”. Cherie saw the gleam in his eye and vowed that he would pay, as he was laughing once again holding the rubber snake!

After their stomachs were full they took a walk around the lake, Sam saw the mischievous glint in Cherie’s eyes so he made sure to walk on the other side of her not right by the lake. In case she might make him “accidentally” stumble into the lake! Cherie found a nice log in the shallow water that she sat on as the sun basked down on her. Sam was busy finishing exploring the lake. Before she knew it her eyes closed and she was dozing. What was that? What was that itchy feeling on her legs? She was rubbing her eyes as she awoke and reached down to scratch her leg. Another scream came out of her mouth and she quickly jumped up doing a jig! Apparently her restful log had been inhabited by leeches! They were crawling on her legs and she was dancing and swatting as fast as she could! Sam came running wondering what was going on. Cherie informed him that she thinks she had enough of the outdoors today, was time to go home. Sam was good about listening to her as he gathered up the basket and blanket, but she saw the smile he was trying to hide.

Back home Cherie took a very refreshing shower and was thinking of the yummy Double Chocolate Cake waiting for her. Her fright over the leeches kept her from going back for dessert as had been planned earlier. That was OK, they could now relax on the cozy couch in their living room by the crackling fire as they enjoyed their dessert.

When she came out to the kitchen she heard the TV coming from the living room. Oh she hoped he had put on a nice romantic movie or a comedy would be fine. She grabbed a plate and started cutting the cake. “Hey Honey, you have to see this?” She grabbed her plate and went to the couch. A commercial was on presently and she asked what he was watching. ” It’s a mystery,” answered Sam. “They found this dead body and…. Hey, where are you going?”

Tuesday’s Thoughts!

Happy Tuesday my friends! I feel like I need toothpicks to keep my eyes open this morning, but these quotes helped me to smile! May they help kick your day off to a great start! Hey its not Monday at least! These quotes are all by Rumi, He was a gifted thinker and writer!

  1. I want to sing like the birds, not worrying about who hears or what they think.
  2. Open your hands if you want to be held.
  3. Our greatest strengths lie in the gentleness and tenderness of our heart.
  4. When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.
  5. Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.
  6. Look past your thoughts so you may drink the pure nectar of this moment.
  7. Hear blessings dropping, they are blossoms all around you.

Hard to pick a favorite this time! But I am going to go with number 6, for its so easy for me to get distracted by other thoughts that want to crowd in. When what I really need to do is just enjoy the nectar, (love that word) of the moment that is. Go ENJOY the moments today!

Top 9 Talents that you won’t want!

Good Morning! I figured since its a Monday, we all could use a laugh to start out the week! Thanks to WriteNLive blogger this post was inspired 🙂 I guess after she reads this she can decide if she is thankful or not for the idea she gave me 🙂 She had commented on one of my posts saying I am talented and I was thankful for those nice words of appreciation. I assured her tho that I have talents she wouldn’t want and this post was born!

Top 9 Talents you won’t  want!

  1. I have mastered the talent of getting lost in my own town and just about anywhere! Sense of direction is NOT one of my senses!
  2. The ability to always pick the slowest checkout line in the store!
  3. The art of being able to only draw stick figures and hearts! At 5years old my dear daughter asked me to draw her a horse. I did, she looked and replied, “Mommy that is NOT a horse, what is it?”
  4. Being able to head out of a store getting to the door and sometimes even walking out the door UNITENTIONALLY  with something in my hand when I realize I haven’t paid for it! Those times you just go into browse and pick up something as you continue browsing, not really intending to buy it. YES, BE ASSURED I have gone back to pay for the item or put the item back! Feel free to let me know that you possess this talent also! I am sure there is someone out there!
  5. The art of accidentally catching your hair on fire! Yes, this is the talent you really DON’T want!! No worries, it wasn’t major, BUT will tell you scorched hair does NOT smell good!
  6. The ability to catch a moving car! That takes skill wouldn’t you say? 🙂
  7. Tripping up the stairs or just tripping on the bumpy air as you walk!
  8. The art of jumping and squealing at something much smaller than me! But this something has 8 legs and is hairy! Yes, I detest spiders! Here is a story for you. A few years back my DEAR Mother-in-law found out that my daughter wanted a remote control spider for her birthday. Well I sure had no intention of getting it! When my daughter unwrapped the gift her face lit up with joy and mine did not exactly have the JOYFUL look! Maybe more of a glaring look! Ha! Fortunately my MIL and I have a great relationship, but SOMEDAY who knows what she will unwrap!
  9. The art of being rear ended 2x at the same intersection on the same day!

So I hope these made you laugh to start your day out and to know that in life you can’t always take yourself seriously! Laugh at yourself ! What talents do you have that may not make people green with envy! Share below 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge, “Connected”

Cell C-0179Cell 0106Cell 0221In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Connected.” I know I have posted the first picture before of the Bridge of Locks in Paris, but it fit this theme so well. The second picture is of my girls and their cousins, love connects them over the miles!  Yes it is a few years back. My sister in law and I like hanging onto the sentimental times when they were so little and cute! And last of all who remembers the GREAT game Twister 🙂 That is one way to get “connected”!!

Tuesday’s Thoughts!

Good Morning! It’s Tuesday again, tho I am ready for Friday! Anyone else? 🙂 Hopefully some Mark Twain quotes will give you a reason to smile today! Have a great one!

1.” The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else up.” (very true!)

2.” It is wiser to find out than to suppose.”

3. “It is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog!” (AMEN!)

4.” Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it!” ( And I think this one has to be my favorite today, just love the picture it gives in your mind of forgiveness spreading a fragrance!)

5. “Wrinkles merely are where smiles have been.” (so its a good thing when you age to get wrinkles! 🙂 )

Which one is your favorite today and why? 🙂
