My House of Dreams

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Dream Home.”

On this snowy day it is nice to dream about my dream home!

It would be built near the ocean, where I can open the windows and hear the roar of the ocean waves and the cries of the seagulls. Feel the ocean breeze.

The colors of my house would be soft blues and rose colored. Seashells would be placed around and pictures of sunsets and sunrises over the ocean would grace the walls.

I would have my own writing nook. My cozy room would have a balcony where when I needed some fresh air to feel invigorated I could walk out on it and sit and write, hearing the sounds of the ocean. I would have a desk in my room, but also one of those big comfy wicker chairs to curl myself up in. The walls would have a border of sea gulls flying as my thoughts flew free through my pen or keyboard. There would also be a large sandcastle with a moat around it painted on the wall. It  would  remind me of the imagination of children and to let my imagination soar.

There would be a soundproof room that would be my husband’s getaway where he could play his drums and music as loud as he wanted. He could have a nice leather recliner in the corner of the room for when he wanted to rest and escape from the world.

In the living room would be a huge salt water fish tank of all kinds of beautiful fish that we could gaze at and at night there would be a light for it showing up the vivid colors. The coffee table in the middle of the room would be a glass covered top with seashells under it. All different shaped and unique ones.

Ahhhh yes, the house of my dreams would be so relaxing, for I could walk right out the front door into  paradise!

  2. You are such a great writer. I was able to visualize, and was almost transported to your dream house through your description! I also think of Heaven, and how if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. (Psalm 37:4) I am so glad He gave us a good imagination, and the ability to dream on this earth!

  3. Awesome — both the dream house and the new look of the site! That coffee table with seashells under glass will look gorgeous; you should start by really making it! 🙂 To simulate the fish tank, you could connect a big TV to a computer running a fish tank display program (creative software like that already exists at reasonable prices), and put bamboo screens and tropical plants around it.

My plan is to transform my existing house into a lovely relaxing getaway spot a little at a time, turning the room that was my kids’ study into a comfy writing nook and creating virtual-reality tropical scenery in other parts of the house with flat-screen panels that display moving waterfalls, etc., with soundtracks to match. I keep notes in my writing folder about all the fun things I’d like to do with my house!

  4. Thanks for your comments !! Love the idea about the moving waterfalls!! I have told my husband how I would love to have waterfall pics all over our house someday! There is just something about them that I find so awesome! I may have to do what you do with your writing folder, keep notes. Right now it seems a impossible dream, but hey you never know what can be accomplished little by little. 🙂

    • Almost 20 years ago, I saw a moving waterfall for sale at a flea market. That was before flat-screen technology, so it wasn’t something that could easily be hung on a wall; but I thought it was very cool anyway, and kept it in mind as a future decorating idea. My husband loves waterfall pics too.

Right now I’m trying to decide what furniture I want on the east wall of my writing room. Either a loveseat and a small corner desk, or a comfy oversized chair and a larger corner desk. There isn’t quite enough room for both the loveseat and the larger desk… decisions, decisions. 🙂

  5. Beautiful descriptions, Joy. I know of a friend whose perfect house you’ve just described 🙂 . I’m a fan of the noisy so i don’t think this is for me 😉 but it’ll definitely make for my PERFECT GETAWAY. 😀
